Retuned, with DSP, bass response good
Here is the best tune I've found to date. Bass response is good, doesn't distort the speakers. I can actually use the tone and fader controls on the radio as it should. Most importantly, sounds really good going down the road, not just in the garage.
Boombox bin file: Factory DSP flash
Boombox treble: 2 bars up
Boombox bass: 0 to 3 bars down depending on type of music
Schosche line level converter: Max attenuation
RF300x2 input: 6v input
RF300x2 X-over: HP
RF300x2 gain: right around the "7", +/-
RF300x2 freq: right around 125hz, +/-
Procedure:
1) Have dealer flash Boombox back to factory bin file depending on your model.
2) turn line level converter to max attenuation (all the way to "-" sign)
3) turn RF300x2 input all the way to 6v
4) turn RF300x2 gain all the way down
5) turn RF300x2 X-over to "HP"
6) turn RF300x2 freq to around the 250hz range (approx)
7) turn Boombox treble 2 bars up
8) turn Boombox bass to middle
9) turn on a test tone or play some music
10) slowly turn Boombox volume up until it is 2 bars from max
11) slowly turn RF300x2 gain up until you hear distortion, then back it off a hair
12) slowly turn RF300x2 X-over freq down until you hear distortion, then turn it up a hair
13) my settings ended up close to the 7 on gain and close to the 125 on freq, your results may vary
Your tastes may very, but to me this finally sounds the way I have wanted this bike to sound for a long time now. When I play "La Grange" by ZZ top, the bass guitar is LOUD and clear. "Paradise City" by GNR bass drum part is a little muddy at volume, but I can actually turn it up now without causing the speakers to pop. I can crank the guitar solo on "Free Bird - Live" off the '79 Gold and Platinum almost to the max bar without distorting, literally louder than my ears can take.
