Can't quite do it for $200 bucks bro. You're going to need an amp. It does you no good to upgrade the speakers without an amp. You can get close with this set up:

That's about as cheap as it gets for a 4 speaker upgrade. If you cut out a set of speakers you can almost get away with $220. The amp is a must have.
And then some kind of modification to the head unit to run the amp... Right? Well can he just put the speakers in.. And then when he wants he can get the amp?

There's no modification needed to the head unit to make it work with the amp.

He can install some $700 Focal KRC's and it won't sound any better than stock with no amp (well maybe a little better) lol. All jokes aside he can do anything he wants. We are just giving him a heads up not to expect much difference in sound until he gets an amp. Won't notice any difference at all going down the road and just barely in the garage.
As Bates said there's no modifications needed to hook the HU to the amp. Basic high level hook up. Stock speaker wires will input to the amp. Power, Ground, Remote and speaker wires out on the other side of the amp. remote wire to the headlight or ciggy. Power and ground to the battery.
The stock HU will be a high level (speaker wire) Install. The HK unit will not accept RCA's unless it's been modified by iron cross. If you were to purchase an aftermarket HU you would need RCA's.
