Default Bluetooth question

Hey all,

I've never used bluetooth anything and not quite sure how it all works. If I pick up a couple of bluetooth capable helmet systems, could they be paired so driver and passenger can communicate, but also each be paired to individual bluetooth audio devices? In other words, say my daughter is on the back, could she listen to music on her phone, I listen to music off my phone, but yet we could still talk to each other?

Thanks!

Great question and very well thought out and written. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you, but am also curious about this. Someone will have an answer, hang in the L-n-L

There are several systems out there. The SENA is probably the most popular followed by the cardo scala. I have the scala system and very happy with it, but will admit I don't use it a lot any more (bought her her own bike for a reason). She uses it often even when I don't have mine on because she prefers the speakers in the pouches to earbuds on long riding days. They also allow you to take and receive hands free calls, the clarity is very good on mine, have taken/placed calls going down the road at 75-80 and no problem hearing or being heard.

Bottom line, yes you can both listen to whatever music you want and still communicate when needed. My system can be paired with up to 8 bikes and once you get used to them they are very easy to operate. I used it a lot more when I used to wear a full face helmet and before I upgraded my stereo. Mine works fine with a half helmet also, but typically only use it on long trips anymore. Check out their websites for more info.

Awesome, that's what I was hoping for! I was looking at the Sena system. I think I'm going to pop for two sets and get things rolling.

Thanks for the help!

I ordered the Sena 20S this morning. It not only will do what I was asking, but a lot more! Once I understand it a bit better, I'm going to try the handlebar mount control accessory also. For what its worth, I picked up a HD Vision 3/4 helmet also. I'm thinking it will make for a nice setup. I sure hope so at these prices!

Thanks again for your replies.

Just to clarify, the Sena 20s will not pair up to the bike, in fact no system as of yet will simply pair to the bike, I know its a shame but it will not none the less. They work very well paired to each other and your phone though.

Yep, got it. I agree, its too bad they won't work together. That's what I get for riding an older bike though I guess lol. The original radio/speakers work great so I'll still use them for around town and short rides, but it will be nice to have at least one thing on this ride that's modern!

Thanks for the reply...and btw, nice bike!

Thanks I enjoy it very much, but BT won't work on a new bike either, not unless you go through some extraneous effort to use a Sena transmitter / receiver and all kinds of wiring, just isn't worth it, I stick with the wired connection, no batteries to charge. I do have a pair of 20s's that I bought a couple of years ago, they don't ever get used now though, I guess I should sell them some day.

Hi, I have been looking into doing this and have done some research, I found this page interesting http://bluetoothmotorcyclehelmet.org/

Some pretty good prices can be found these days and it seems like the quality is getting better and better all the time.

I am not too interested in taking or making phone calls, just listening to some music and sometimes a few words to a riding mate.
