How weatherproof are these focal 165's? T recommended I scotchgaurd either the stock cloth speaker covers or buy some fabric and place it in the focal grills. I have seen these speakers facing strait up in lids with no grills but doubt those guys ride hundreds of miles in pouring rain.

Speakers are incredible as you well know... no amp yet, I didn't get the blocks for the speaker wires to plug in, the pitfall of buying used I guess.

Will get it sorted out on Monday with a call to Arc Audio.

Like I said, with just 100w running to them I'm already enjoying them.

I also ordered some lids yesterday They had a "deal" going on at the local dealer, hunt for eggs which had 5,10,15, or 20% off. Even with their 20% off I was cheaper to buy online from boardtracker. Decided if I was spending the money I was going to get what I wanted regardless so I ordered the Baddad lids because I REALLY like the looks of them and I can put LED's later if I want.

Got some waterproof quick disconnects off ebay and a new delphi crimping tool so going to make all the connections delphi/molex.

Should be setup with lids by rally time

I place hydrophobic cloth over all of my speakers, including the ones in the bags facing the rear wheel. There's an post by AAWAV on a how-to.

Pretty much any speaker that you use that does not have a paper cone and has a rubber outter will be somewhat water resistant. The bigger concerns should be with coaxial speakers the open cone for the tweeter stalk that could allow water to enter and wet whatever is behind your speakers.

Better safe than sorry.

Haze mailed me some of that fabric and it works like a champ and also looks good too. The focal yellow is pretty cool looking but the clean look of your speaker areas blacked out is mucho better.

Since Haze does what he does I purchased a roll of that fabric and will treat a section of it when it arrives. As part of the Haze pay it forward program I will mail u what u need when I get it road ready. Just PM me ur address and I will send when I can as our Forum friend out in Hawaii needs some too.

How are the Focals midbass compared to the mille? I am sure once you have more juice to them you will have a better verdict. I am really debating just spending some cash soon and be done. I like my setup but not in love. With my new amp I am comfortable throwing something higher end in. Leaning toward hsk165xl or k2 like you have. I'll have 200 rms cleanly available to drive them.

I really like the Focal's. The Millies were my least favorite but it could be that I was just expecting more out of them.

I decided 200w was to much for the Focal's so I dropped to 4x100 (bridged on the TM400x4 I was pushing 200w) but thought I needed more so going with an Arc Moto 600.4 150x4.

I was a fan of the Focal PC 165, thought they were better than the Millies, just not as loud. KRC's seem louder but it could just be that their so clean they only seem louder.

I'll have my setup ready to do side by side testing very soon I hope. Keep looking for the "Bunker's Beats" thread for new.
