Honestly Steve I'd start with a new amp over a new HU. This may just satisfy your itch.
Thanks for the responses.
I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination.
I just want to be able to turn the radio up enough to hear it clear at 70 mph, without the garbled sound I'm getting now.
My set up sounds fine to me at 35-40 mph.
If I can wake up the 7.1's with the right amp, I think I'll be happy.
Sorry to be a pita, but I do listen to a lot of FM radio.
What direction do I go to for an amp to wake up the 7.1's, still get a clear FM signal, and fit it in the batwing, keeping the stock HU? Thanks!

To be able to keep FM you'll definitely want to go with the BT 2180. I think you'll be more than pleased with what this amp will bring to the table.
Absolutely. Be sure to come back to this thread and let us know how it turns out. I think with an extra 80 watts per side you should notice quite a difference.
Also when you call to order, ask for the HDFORUMS discount and make sure you ask for the pac35. You'll need it to convert your output speaker wires to RCA connector for the amp.

Thanks again.
I already called Biketronics and asked for Bill.
He was busy but I left him a voice mail and waiting for a call back.
Will definitely let you know my thoughts when I get it installed.
I do listen to FM a lot, am I going to regret this?
I was told that "most" people don't have FM problems, but it is a class D amp.
I'm now skeptical about spending $400 and not getting FM.
I have the stock HU and the long stock whip antenna.

The BT amps do not affect FM. There have been a few isolated cases where they did but I believe most of them were fixed you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Thanks for the reassurance.
I probably won't get it installed for a couple of weeks.
Will post back once I get it connected.
Got the BT2180 installed yesterday.
I have just two fairing speakers, BT Titan II's 7.1, with stock HU.
Fairly easy and straight forward installation.
Haven't tried it on the road yet, still pretty chilly yesterday here in New England and it was late in the day.
My thoughts with it parked it in the garage:
The 2180 drives the 7.1 speakers with much more power than my PBR 300x2
Even though this is a class D amp, FM is clear.
With the stock HU, I'm getting crisper, cleaner, louder sound with less distortion.
Initial impression is I'm hearing quite a bit less bass then with the PBR.
I have the bass setting almost all the way up, treble setting almost all the way down (which I didn't have to do with the PBR) but getting less depth (bass) in sound then what I had with the PBR.
Not sure if anything can be done about that?
All in all, I think I'll be happy with the system the way it is now.
I'll report back when I get a chance to listen to it on the highway.
Thanks all who guided me to this amp.
