Default Aftermarket Head Unit?

2013 Electra Glide Classic

Stock Head Unit
PBR 300x2 amp
Biketronics Titan II 7.1 speakers

Speakers and amp are a great improvement over stock.
Now after a couple of years I'm less satisfied with the clarity at higher speeds.
I'm looking for an aftermarket head unit to give me a little more punch and better clarity at higher volume and speed.

I have no intention of adding additional speakers other than the two in the fairing.

Recommendations for a compatible head unit to get me where I want to be?

How difficult is it to R&R the head unit?
I do all my own work on the bike.
Thanks for any suggestions!

There are several good ones that are used regularly here on the forums. Installation isn't hard at all. There's also a few different options as far as the interface modules go as well for your hand controls. What are you looking for in a HU? Bluetooth, CD, USB inputs? These need to be considered in your choices.

I don't really care about bluetooth (I don't think)? I have a smartphone but I'm old and not that smart.
USB would be nice, if I had the USB I guess I wouldn't care about the CD.
Vague enough?

I use this Sony unit as well as a few others here. It's priced well under what I payed for mine less than a year ago. No CD player but has a tray inside to hold an iPod. USB port in the front and inside the tray as well. Nice radio for sure.
As far as mounts and interface goes Biketronics sells an install kit for around $300. I used the Metra install kit for $80.

Can't go wrong with upper end Sony or kenwood HU.

The PBR likes high level inputs, most of the units like RCA outputs so you may want to look at a different amp as well. To be honest, the 300x2 isn't pushing the 7.1s anywhere near their full potential. You would be pleasantly surprised at how much better they'll sound with more power behind them. I ran them with BT 2180 and kenwood HU in my 13 RG, very impressive for only 2 speakers.

I agree completely. Stronger amp would make a world of difference as well.

With the two 7.1's isn't the BT2180 @180 watts?
I have 150 watts now with the 300x2.
Is that extra 30 watts going to make a $400+ difference switching to the 2180 amp, keeping the stock HU?

The PBR is only 100W at 4 ohm. The CV B52 is cheaper than 2180 and advertises 200W at 4 ohm. I believe the sticky post of amps lists the actual tested power.

Roadie is correct you amp specs at 100 watts at 4ohms. The BT 2180 or the Cerwin Vega B52 will make those speakers come alive.
