Default RF amp help needed.

Ok here it goes and it may get lenghthy and I apologize in advance. I have a PBR 300x2 amp running 2 infinity kappa 62.11 in the fairing. I installed this last year and had no problems with it. This year i am experimenting this issue. When I turn up my volume in HK HU to about 2/3 volume the music starts to cut out. Turn volume down and it goes away. My settings on my amp are this. Gain 5 80mhz using high level inputs set on AP. Here is what I have done so far disconnected one speaker at a time to see if was doing it on only one speaker wasn't the case. So I started over and set gain to 0 turned HU up to 2/3 volume and started to turn gain up got to around 5-5.5 and started to cut out. I turned the gain down but it continues to cut out. Only way to get it to not cut out was unplug power wires from amp and plug back in. So started again and noticed that there wasn't any change in volume from 1-4 on gain wasn't till I hit 5 that it kicked in. But then it started cutting out again turn volume down and went away.

Am I asking too much of this set up? I now have the gain set on 4.5 and doesn't cut out with volume turned all the way up but still not as loud as when gain is on 5 and volume turned down a little. I'm just confused as last year I never had it cut out and volume was turned up to where my ears were bleeding. Could it be the amp or maybe the HU. HELPPPPPPP! Thanks

Anything change with the power or ground connections since last year? Are you playing a CD or using the AUX input? I had the same setup and ran the gain around 5 with it set to AP. I also kept the bass & treble adjustments low on the radio and kept the AVC off.

Nothing changed that I know of. The cd always cut out when I bought it last year. Its an 07. I usually play the radio or Aux does it on both settings. Those setting you mentioned were what I ran it on last year. Now this has presented itself. I guess I haven't eliminated the amp as the problem or maybe I blew both speakers. I checked the ohm reading and it read 2.7

I wonder if your head unit board might have an issue. call Iron cross, I bet they've seen or heard of your problem.

I was thinking it was the head unit as well. I have been wanting to change it out with aftermarket but have been procrastinating.

Unplug your amp and connect your speakers to your HU. Turn up the volume, if no cutting out happens then your radio and speakers are fine. It's the amp.

If you connect the amp and it starts to cut out it could be a few things, normally related to power or heat. If your amp is drawing power and your battery can't supply the draw either the battery itself, VR, etc. then your amp starts to cut out. If it overheats it starts to cut out, etc. That's when when you lower the volume and reduce the draw it doesn't happen.

Ok so here's what've found out this morning. Unhooked amp and installed speakers just to head unit. No cuttingly at full volume. So I hooked amp back up and in the process recrimped all my connections. Started with volume at 2/3 and started increasing gain in amp. Got to 7 and my ears almost exploded from the back of the speakers. Turned it down to 5.5 and played radio and iPhone and turned volume up and down and it never cut out. Kinda stumped here. I'm gonna let it sit and try again later and see what happens. Is it possible I had a bad speaker connector.

I appears that when you re-crimped the connectors you corrected a bad connection. The RF amp must be able to detect the a faulty connection and go into protection mode.
