Default RF PBR300x2, is it dead?

I'm looking for some opinions here, but I've concluded my amp is dead. It's been installed a couple of months along with the Infinity 62.11i speakers. I wired it from the sticky posted above, along with the power and ground wires directly to the battery. Amp is mounted to an aluminum bracket purchased from eBay, everything is secure. Gain was set to 5 and the crossover to AP. Music was loud and sounded great.

Fast forward until a couple of days ago and after riding 2-3 miles with the stereo about a 1/4 of the way up, I lose all sound. The stereo settings are: bass +1, treble +2 and AVC 1. After riding a short distance, the sound came back and I quickly figured out that anything over 5 bars of volume would cause it to quit altogether. Turning the radio off or switching sources never sped up the sound returning.

Took the wife to dinner tonight and kept the music low, didn't have any problems. After coming back into town, turned it up to 7 bars and it played for like 3 seconds and quit. After an hour of riding, still no music. Came home and pulled the fairing off to look it over.

The power light never comes on for the amp, but neither does the protect light. I have a verified 12.9 volts coming into the amp with the bike off and the only code in the radio is open front speaker. I did run a set of wires from the speaker level inputs directly to the speakers to verify output from the radio, it checks good. I also played with the input voltage sensitivity on the amp and couldn't make it come on. All signs lead to the amp not powering up, but before I contact RF directly, did I miss anything? Any other troubleshooting tips you'd like to share?

Thanks

So after running a speaker wire from the factory wiring back to the speakers (bypassing the amp), and confirming that I have radio output, I measured the AC voltage from the radio @ 1.7 volts with the volume about half way up. Is this normal?

depends on what you were listening to.

so you've got sound from the head unit directly to the speaker but what happens after about 20 minutes of music playing? Does it cut out like it does with the amp in place? anything changed lately?

does the amp power on fine? what about the voltage setting to turn the amp on with speaker wire inputs? To set this, turn it all the way down. turn your head unit on with volume turned all the way down. now turn that adjustment **** until the amp powers up and leave it set there.

I do have sound from the speakers if the amp is bypassed and it will play at least an hour without any cutting out. The voltage setting was all the way down when I unboxed it and I never adjusted it when I installed this setup.

I can't make the amp power on at all. The power LED never lights using the speaker level inputs and I did apply voltage to the REM connection, still no power.

I did change handlebars about 3 weeks ago and everything worked fine afterwards. I've looked for bare wires or shorts and can't find any. The radio only shows the open speaker code, nothing else.

I've tried everything from the lowest to highest setting without luck. I thought the REM being powered would be a definitive test for the amp to turn on or not. What should the measured voltage be at the speaker level output from the radio?

I spent some time on the phone with the Rockford Fosgate tech line and it looks like the amp is in fact defective. I'm mailing it back today for them to check out.

Thats interesting that they took it back--any updates?

Ive got THREE PBRs laying on my bench that wont come on......
Pretty much decided that these amps are NOT made to take what i was throwing at them. They lasted almost 6 months until shut down.
Gonna move on to something else i think at this point.

I had a similar issue with my first PBR300x2 amp. Sent it back and received a replacement. No more issues.

Actually, the Ebay seller I bought it from took it back... I haven't heard any updates on when the replacement should be here.
