after speaking to Biketronics yesterday, the guy told me to definitely run a new ground from the triple tree to the HU. He also said a VERY common problem with the Harleys is at the handlebar controls...he said to loosen, not remove the two halves of the control bases where they clamp onto the bars and make sure the wires are in the grooves....he said many times they are not and wires get pinched and that pinching can cause the same issue I am having. If that fails he told me my old Biketronics unit is under warranty and for 15 bucks they will replace it....for an extra 50 bucks they will give me the ewer updated model that is a much more stable unit in bad ground situations....however they do that..

i just got mine straightened out....i grounded the HU to the chassis...made zero difference. kept farting around with it...double and triple checking all my connections. The night I was installing it, it was near dusk and the mayflies were killing me...I used the same switched lead as I had used on my previous HU (and the power to my amp is straight from the battery on a fused dedicated line). After a little investigating with my test light i found that the switched power lead was acting up. I disconnected it and found an accessory lead, hooked onto that and just like magic...everything seems good.

The cigarette lighter is good one for that. Good you got it diagnosed. Now you need to do same test before and after the BT module to rule out any issues on bike wiring? Could be anything from a corroded fuse to a pinched or broken wire if before the BT module.
