The smart guys will want to know which HU, If you had fade set more to rear with bass cranked up distortion is the main enemy of many speakers.

What are ur LL gains set at? If u have the gains more than about noon or 1 o'clock u might have some distortion issues, thus blowed up speak. As low as 11 for high SPL speaks would be a good place to be.
Could have been a bad speaker to begin with as shix happens there too. It not always our fault!!!

Yeah, there is no telling what the hell happened to the settings during the shipping and handling.
Pop the hood and do the trusty old cave man tuning method.
Check the HPF on the top yellow part of the LL and those should be lined up with the default lines.
On the end of the LL, u will find the gains. Turn those all the way to the left or counter clockwise on both LLs.
Turn bike to Acc.
Set HU fade to front only.
Set ur favorite song up to play at 3/4 volume (u won't be hearing **** at this point)
Now go back to the front LL and slowly turn this clockwise up until u notice even the slightest bit of speaker distortion. Then turn the gain back or counter clockwise one clock tick or so. (1 back to 12 o'clock or 12 back to 11 o'clock). U can usually expect to hear the distortion near 1 o'clock but could be earlier so put ur game face on.
Done with fronts.
Fade to rear and repeat.

If u don't have fade, just unplug RCAs for the speaks not being tuned.

Now that u have a feel for the process and a good ear for the distortion in a controlled environment, the kicker is that u should always tune with the bike running so start the bike and dial these gain settings according to the above steps. Should be fairly close but a different animal voltage wise so make sure do this with engine running.

Also, set your Auto Volume Control to 0 or one click as u get up to a 10+ voltage jump with 2 or 3 set. Blows tweets in higher settings.

This should get u in a pretty safe spot. Distortion blows speaks so put your keen ear on this and error on the side of conservative.

Hope this helps!!!

T

That helps thanks. Couple of side notes when i turn the volume up to max i do not have any distortion (My opinion) do i still need to go through the steps you outlined? The other thing i was wanting some feedback on does the highway wind cause damage to the lid speakers could of this been why mine blew I have the Hogtie lids.

Are you using the AVC (auto volume control)?
If you are I would have to say that is the cause of your problem blowing speakers.
The AVC increases the output voltage of the head unit considerably. There is a write up here in the forum of the voltage increases

As T mentioned check to make sure the Line Leveler Gains are set to default. There are no markings but this is what default looks like.
