Default Probably a dumb question..ground?

I grounded my 2180 under the fairing as BT installation suggested. I see where the knowledgeable here say run the ground to the battery. I am not having any cutting out or problems but wonder if there is any SQ to be gained from grounding to the battery? Like I said...probably a dumb question.

That is not a dumb question at all, Hopefully will get an answer from some of these guys that really understand this stuff and the different effects these little differences make, in the next couple of hours before I hook up my ground on the system I'm hooking up today

I can't speak for sound quality differences but I can tell you, if you have not hooked up a ground yet they will absolutely tell you to take it back to the battery.

I think the 77 Customs guys had said that the only real issues they have ever had to address on a BT system were due to the ground not being at the battery or battery ground post 3" from the battery.

Ground it at the battery or ground post with same gauge wire as the power wire.

I just opened my arc amp wiring package and it has both eight gauge wires going all the way back to the battery.

I will post a write up on the package it also has some very good information

Thanks guys for your help it is so cool to be able to get instant good information

I was thinking of pulling my fairing again to give the LL a little tweaking which is why I am asking the ground sound quality question. Like I said, no problems with the ground as it is but if there is a sq benefit I will run it to the battery. My guess is no, but if it does I sure would like to do it while the fairing is off again.

Most folks will ground at the battery or the designated ground post adjacent to the battery.

If u want to quiet these voices in your head once and for all, take the extra 15 minutes and pop the seat and tank off and ground it back there.

^This!

I definitely noticed a difference in sg moving the ground to the battery and also restored my lost fm stations. Do it, it's easy and can only help, no negative's to doing it.

I have also been experimenting with different quality speaker wires, connectors, rcas, etc and I can tell you I notice a difference in sq....that's all I'm gonna say on that

Glad you were able to confirm a difference.

The biggest current draw from an electrical system typically comes from the amplifier, so reducing any resistance (from the fairing, to the forks, to the frame, to the battery) optimizes current flow and minimizes heat build-up (at each resistance point).
