I picked up an aftermarket batwing with 6.5" cutouts for speakers. I have a alpine amp laying around I may use....would it be ok to just velcro it to the inner fairing? Heres no instrument cluster or brackets or wiring in there but there's also nothing to mount to. If that's a bad idea I'll make up some short C mounts an drill the fairing. Trying to make it as simple as possible an avoid any extra drilling, not sure how sturdy this thing is. I'm looking at polk speakers Polk Audio DB651 6.5....I have a head unit laying around too, I may pick up a cheap marine unit though. could I buy a good high output stereo an not use the amp? it's a 2 ch 45w cont amp. I just want a decent sound, I don't do any touring on it....it's a 99 fatboy.

is there a bracket inside for mounting the radio? a small amp should sit right atop the head unit. 45 watts per channel may not be enuf
it came with a marine cover that has a shelf built into it for the radio to sit on, it mounts to the face of the inner fairing. It's 50x2 cont an 90 max per chnl. Since I have it I'm going to try it. I just don't want to contribute to it heating up for sitting on the lower.

You might want to check the wattage rating on those DB's, I think it's only 60 watts.
hey John they are rated at 60 watt cont an 120 max an the amp is rated at 50 cont an 90 max but I was working on it today an it's quite a bit smaller than a touring model batwing an I don't think there's room for this amp. I may pick up a smaller sized one but I think I'm going to try it with no amp first....I mostly ride around town an back roads, not much highway.
