If not in the lids, the output outside of a parking lot will be minimal at best, even with a horn and pro audio drivers. If you want rears go in the lids, 6x9, 7.7, 8, 8.8. All comes down to budget, and what you got to power them.

I think it would work, the rotation of the wheel should direct sound waves back up to the rider. It would work on the front wheel also as it would throw the waves out in front so you could ride into them; much improving the quality. Take the car!

In my experience the speakers facing the tire is more of a fill sound wise when your riding. 75-80% of the sound will go away once you hit highway speeds. Its not stopping me from doing them in my bike though. I don't want to put speakers in my lids because I kind of like the "sleeper" look. So at speeds around town and chilling with your friends they will sound fine.. any speed basically over 45mph.. eh.

ok thanks guys. I had a front fairing and could hear them fine when on freeway but it was causing to much waving back and forth of handle bars on my road king and would scare me a little since I am still recovering accident. since I have taken it off I can get up to about 70mph and no shaking but I have no music now.
