Gents, could use some advice on a new upper fairing speaker for my 2008 Street glide. Currently running a BT4180 with 7.1's in the fairing and HCX690's in the lids, the system is pretty nice but the 7.1's are to bright for me. Can ya'll help me make a informed decision on what to replace the 7.1's with?? Listen to Rock and Country music. Plan also to add lower fairings this fall could use some advice on a speaker selection for the lowers as well.
My first question is what HU are you running? Stock or aftermarket? Being able to tune what you have will go a long way. Hard to do that with the stock HU.
Tailwind: The Hertz 6x9's are OK, but are barely heard at highway speeds. Need something in the upper fairing not as bright as the 7.1's that will sound good.
SBates08: I'm using a aftermarket Sony BTX310 head unit that I really like.

This is the same HU that I use. Do you remember how you have it setup? HPF and Slope, EQ, loudness on or off?

"Sounding good" is a relative term which is why I was asking if u like the general sound that the Hertz 6x9s put out. If those sound bright then u have to make a major course change.
Regardless, focus on components for your fairing. Currently my favorite components are the Hertz MLK 165.3. MPX 165.3 Components might be a good option as well. They run just fine with the BT4180. Not cheap but if u tinker around with baby steps u will eventually end up in the same place at twice the cost. A lot of different component sets available so start listening around if possible.
See what u can do w the HU to warm things up a bit, if not start saving some bucks for some good components!!!

SBates08: here's how I have the BTX310 setup, Gann shared these settings with me awhile back. 1. Listening Position = "Normal" 2. Fader Balance = "Center" 3. Subwoofer = Phase Normal 4. Subwoofer Level = 0 db 5. HPF = Freq 80 hz 6. DM+ Advanced = "ON" 7. Rear Bass Enhancer = "OFF" 8. Dynamic Loudness = "OFF" 9. EQ7 Preset = XPLODE
Change listening position to "All" and set Slope on HPF to 1. Everything else is good. This won't make big changes but every little bit helps. As much as I like the BT systems, IMO the BT speakers sound better with an amp you can adjust and dial in. Same goes for the 4180...other speakers sound better being pushed with it as well. But it all comes down to the individual ear that's listening to it too.
