What i understand from the Fix 82 or 86, once you calibrate it it takes any input signal and tries to match the calibrated output. So in the Harley world, if you calibrated with the bike on, it would take the bike on or off input and spit out the same bike on calibrated output, or vice versa.

My question is will the calibration work the same if you rip the cd to a thumb drive and calibrate it that way? And if i were to buy one pre calibrated from a shop, will it work the same with a different flash from the possible calibration flash version if its different from the one on your bike?

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've been waiting patiently to hear from someone on here to try it and give a before and after review.

So in what way will this work in both scenarios?
Keep in mind the eq setting is 100% automated as of right now but come December it will be consumer adjustable via computer/software interface.
As the HK Head units change internal dsp (built into the radio) setting when the bike is running vs not running it would be best to tune/set the fix 82/86 while running. AFTER CALIBRATION The fix 82/86 output dsp settings will still be active/same with the bike running or not and it will always use the settings that were calibrated while running (or not running if you choose). I cant imagine there to be a substantial difference of calibrating the fix running vs not running BUT since testing has shown the head unit (in factory configuration) automatically does change output signal when running vs not running, I would always calibrate while running. Unless you just like to hang out on the curb impressing the neighbors with your awesome stereo, lol.
Hopefully I can answer all of this when I install it.

"Yes" to the rip cd to thumb drive. You will have to copy the cd test tone to a thumb drive and use it WITH YOUR SPEAKERS DISCONNECTED.

Buying one pre-calibrated is not possible. This is an end user product that is only matched to whatever bike its hooked up to. Meaning if you and I went to Harley and bought two new identical bikes the factory radio signal outputs will vary. Maybe only marginal but you can bet they will differ.
I would not suggest using one pre-calibrated from another bike. Its simple enough to calibrate once hooked up to your bike.

I'm hoping to get to this install in the next few days.

the Twk82 doesn't work with the Fix86. It works all by itself

Ah gotcha. The link below mentions from a factory HU you still need a converter and the Fix "could" serve that purpose. One could possibly use cheap LOC, would have to try it. My point is why spend 300 plus bucks on a DSP you can't adjust, especially considering the Rushmore HU only has bass and treble adjustments. If we're talking a 4 speaker system with 1 amp and moderate power that's a lot of money to invest when a BT line leveler could possibly get u very close for half the price. Now, If we're talking a 16 speaker bike with 3 amps and two batteries then I'd want adjustments all day.

Did you install the unit yet? Curious as to how it turned out.

The 82 and 86 both have speaker level inputs as they were specifically designed for factory head unit use, direct from the factory HU and RCA out to the amp. I 100% agree that the big drawback is that there's no adjustability on them but that's being remedied come December (straight from the JL mouths) as they are integrating a software update (end user updateable) to allow several adjustable parameters (not sure what they are as it wasn't clarified) AND either a 6 or 9 band eq.
It sucks that on our factory HU's we only have bass and treble but I'm hoping that with a flat output from the DSP (as it auto eq's 30 channels) we can at least have the audio as it was recorded without all of the HK DSP overprocessing.
Like I said in an earlier post, it's worth the $200.00 to try it. It sure isn't going to hurt the sound any, lol.

Got the 82 temporarily installed on the bike. I will say this, it makes a huge amount of difference on the overall sound. The output to the amp is almost distortion free finally!!
Going to play with it some more this week and see how dialed in I can get it.

Btw; I've got a brand new fix 86 I bought for $225.00 from the local supplier. If anyone is interested I may sell it. I will put it on the for sale forum

What's the difference between the 82 and 86?
