Default Dynamat Batwing Install - Rushmore

So I searched the forum and youtube for info on putting this stuff in correctly. There's a thread "approved by Gannicus and Haze" but it's on a 13 FLHX. I took pics of the process I used thanks to a suggestion by pdevore. Thanks much Pete. So here it is:

I figured out the best lines for my dynamat panels and used masking tape to tape them off. I left 1/8" gaps around each panel. Once the shapes were on the fairing I put 4-5 layers of masking tape over it and used an exacto knife to keep my lines and spacing.

I labeled each panel then peeled them off carefully. Each panel came up in one piece better than expected.

Where I had the gaps in the tape I used a metallic Sharpie to mark where the panels should be placed.

As I peeled the panels off, I stuck them directly onto the topside of the Dynamat and simply cut around the edges of the masking tape.

I started with the middle piece above the headlight and worked my way out to the edges. I had a blowdryer handy in case I needed to soften it up but didn't really have to use it. The most useful tool I had for installation was a tennis ball. It slides nicely over the surface of the Dynamat and gets into the curves of the fairing. I'm super happy with the outcome.

So that was it. I will add that I've never put dynamat on anything before in my life and the most tedious part of the process was layering all that masking tape. That said, all my "stencils" are still in tact and labeled. If anyone is in the process of building a system on their Rushmore batwing and planning on doing this, I would be happy to send you the stencils in the mail. I promise it'll save you two hours! I have no use for them anymore so if anyone needs them, shoot me a PM.

Chris,
Those turned out perfect. Looks like I need to let you do my RG fairing now. Glad to see you didn't waste any time.

Speaking from one **** brother to another: CUDOS!!!!!

Very similar to what I did, except that I made my pattern by outlining the various areas (sections) with masking tape, then used computer paper for the "fill-in" of my pattern, taping the paper to the masking tape on the fairing and to itself.

Even though no one can see it or the wiring for my sound system, I know what's hiding under the fairing and my Brain won't rest unless it's done neatly.

[QUOTE=WestTexasRanger;15868452]Speaking from one **** brother to anotherQUOTE]

This made me laugh. **** indeed! I don't know why the last picture showed up as a link so I'll try posting the close up. I'm also going to be doing Pete's rushmore shark nose so I'll run patterns for that as well and post if anyone is interested.

EDIT. apparently that last pic doesn't want to show up. you get the idea.
