Yes, very true. AVC is the root of all evil. There's nothing physically stopping it, but if you're pushing the system hard and crank the volume too far have spare speakers handy.

you can.

RF is pretty good about giving advice for initial amp settings in the manual which you can find online if you don;t have in hand yet.

the reason for adding an amp is that the stock head unit is going to start adding distortion at say "7"...which makes the speakers sound like crap- even though the speakers are not distorting- they are just reproducing the distortion coming from the radio.

so the idea is to balance "sound" which is music vs "noise" which is hums, buzzes, clicks hiss etc.

so the manual will tell you how to get a good baseline balance where you will have plenty sound- and the speakers would distort before the amp does....it could be with the radio volume set at 3 or 4.

you'll get it.

i think the posts you saw may have been from riders who had a nice balance and then the AVC kicked in and pushed the stock radio into distortion...which the amp made louder...and the speakers reproduced ...or popped.
they have their amp set for the head unit at "4", then the AVC takes that up to "8" when on the highway and...

BTW my budget had me use the infinity kappas and they are very very good!

Mike

So it sounds like if I get set up correctly I can still use the feature as long as I am mindful that it doesn't automatically turn the volume up past the point of no return.

Yep. Don't go there boys.

For the folks advocating for the use of AVC, can you possible share some info with the OP regarding how the AVC actually works and the electricity that comes into play throughout the dynamics of zero to 80 mph? This will at least provide the OP with guidance on the sandbox u are suggesting that he plays in during the tuning process.

U have to really understand the electricity that will come into play when riding so that u can tune it properly. On the Rushmores the vac spikes with AVC are over the top thus if u chose to use it u better understand what is happening behind the scenes and apply defensive tuning measures or spesks are gonna blow up.

Try the search feature, this topic has been discussed quite a bit and a few folks have posted the technical data that will allow u to make good decisions.
