I don't recall the name of the member but a recent system review post I read described something very similar to what your thinking of doing. He went with a dd audio component set in the fairing and with a bag lid setup and if I recall correctly he said after hearing the fairing drivers if he had to do it again he may not bother with the bags. I'm only a bit past the beginning stages of my build but it's going to be centered around dd components, do what I did and talk to Haze at BAL he will most certainly get your ship sailing in the right direction.
I'll say this.. and im no expert.. With the proper fairing speakers and amp, there isnt a need for a bag speaker setup just for the passenger to hear it. I feel like the bag speakers "fill" the sound out real nice, and are necessary for a FULL system, but not required for the passenger to hear what you have playing. Sound travels so weird when you are going highway speeds.
I have messed around with a few setups, and had the best help available to achieve the solution. This is including some super gurus like Gannicus and Ultranutz. In the end, I decided on a simple system that sounds sub-par in an audio competition and GREAT on I-10 running 95 mph...its all in what you wanna achieve.

Yes I have read that a few times as well. My issue is I don't always run my lower fairings. I was thinking about doing the speaker pods on the tour pack since that is closest to my wife, however we only use the tour pack on long rides. Saddle bags are the only thing that is always on the bike. Hell maybe I'll just tell her to wear ear buds. Lol
