Default infinity kappas- replace passive with active crossover?

I have infinity kappas, and am quite happy with the results.

however a passive filter network is always a detriment and wastes alot of power

I am considering specifically trading the 300x2 for a 300x4

I'd have to determine optimal crossover point probably 3.5k or so

and source a crossover

Anyone done this?

the 300x4 is quite cheap on amazon at present- under $120 and cheaper than the 300x2- which is unusual

Mike

Mike in case you missed it the 300x4 is only 4ohm compatible. Unless your planning on running in series and then your gonna get less than the stated 75 watts.

If you want to try active I have some pre amp active 12db xovers that are right at 3.5k. One hp and one Low pass. If you want them $30. I pd $60 for them. Work well.

I really don't understand why you'd spend money on an active crossover when you're running a PBR and Kappa's

Might be better off using said money to upgrade amp or/and speakers

well, because a passive crossover consumes alot of power- and is less precise- rather than dividing the lows to the low and the highs to the highs- it uses a filter network to bleed off frequencies and wasted electrical energy

in terms of impedance the tweeter and the woofer on the kappa are a 4Ω load each- wired in parallel so, a nominal 2Ω total load on the std speaker assembly out of the box

if removing the infinity filter network, amps can be wired directly to each component.

the idea in the end is bang for buck.

keep in mind I work with concert audio systems where passive anything is long long gone
