Okay I've got the front of the bike squared away. I have a problem I'm hoping someone here has dealt with. I installed the Tour Pak detach kit last fall on my '12 FLHTCU, and unless the OL rides, the Pak hangs on a wall in garage. I prefer the cleaner look when solo. Anyway, I need to install an amp/speakers in pak pods, but don't want to lose my detachability....is that a real word? Probably not....but you get the jist.
I need a clean plug setup that will allow me to have a 2ch amp that I can disconnect/reconnect from inside the pak. I can use the existing HD rear audio harness for the speakers(I've Id'd the speaker wires in HD harness and tagged them), but the amp is another story. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing a mid run plug is a bad thing for a positive battery lead. How do I pull this off while maintaining my solo riding preference? Here's the second problem.......how to tap in to the HU and run these 2 speakers? I'm using both RCA outs(fairing/lowers) on the back of my Sony MEX-M70BT.........? Is my only option to run lowers/pak in series? My RF TM400x4ad is running front speakers.......Thanks
On My road King I had the same thoughts as you. I bought a Fairing with a detach kit with the intention of taking it off about half the time also my bags. So I bought a 8ga. wiring spade plug for a trolling motor set up. Also a single wire plug for the amp exciter wire and RCAs that were the correct length so all the wires could be unhooked at the same locations.
It all works great the few times I actually unhook it.
If it were me, I'd put the amp in the fairing where all of the power and input connections were permanent. That only leaves the speaker outputs to contend with. A simple 4 wire plug at the tour pack to connect.

Thanks Guys! I think the second amp will have to go in the fairing....problem solved. I've already got plugs for the tour pak speakers. Here's my main concern now. Since I'm using all of my RCA outs on my Head Unit, how do I tap in to the HU for second amp? I'm sure some of you are laughing at that statement, But I've never wired up a 6 speaker setup using 1 head unit. Can I split one channel out from HU? Seems like that's the only way it could work...........
You'll need 2 male to female Y splitters. Use these on the rear channel of the HU. Take a red and white from each splitter to the new amp. Problem solved.
