I've never been able to find a way to pause playing media from the headunit, only mute it. What really sucks is whe using Bluetooth and a call or text come into the phone it will automatically pause the playing media for a few seconds the most (not all of the time) resume play.
There's no documented way to pause it either. The only real way to do this is a mount for the phone within reach to pause/play media from the phones touchscreen.
If I hit the mute button while playing either a thumbdrive or Ipod, it will pause the music. I haven't used Bluetooth to stream music so not sure if mute will pause.
OK, so I found out today the MUTE button WILL pause music played from a flash drive hooked up to the USB. But, I also just figured out today that to get Google Maps navigation to play through the sound system you have to be streaming Bluetooth music. Who knew? The Boom system is not exactly user friendly.

Is the Nav system installed on the sled not working?
All I know is that if I was making a proprietary Nav system, I'm not sure I would make anything user friendly for third party interfaces. Just part of the deal, and probably a prudent business platform.
I know it sucks, but it's just part of the business model we all learn to accept and work with it around it.
