Default Need help from someone more knowledgeable

I have been working on my 16 Road Glide Ultra sound system the last few weeks. I have the original head unit and at first added 4 150 watt kicker speakers and a 4 channel Rockford Fosgate PBR 300x4. Got it all installed, put the bike back together, and took her out for a ride. Had the gains way too high, 7-8 and she kept cutting out, of course. I decided, I'm going to add a second amp, a PBR 300x2, to power the rears and turn the switch on the 300x4 to 2 way. Got everything installed, turned the gain to both amps at 5 and I just don't seem to get the sound I was hoping for.

I don't know crap about this stuff and try to read everything I can, watch darn youtube videos, but, I'm lost. Can you guys that have fantastic setups give me some direction? I would really appreciate it.

Those PBRs are known more for their 2ohm ability. I've never used one of them, so hopefully someone with a little more knowledge of them will chime in.

Yeah - Unfortunately Matt's right. You should have visited the audio section before you purchased your gear. You don't want either one of those amps in a 16 roadglaide Ultra bro!!
You also need some better speakers. The kickers are a nice starter speaker. But it sounds like you only want to do this once and be done with it. The Rockford PBR300X4 is a very weak amp. The X2 is much better but as Matt stated it's better suited for 2 ohm speakers. Today's audio on a bike has advanced way beyond those two amps.

Time for you to sell it all and start all over again. You can get all the help you need right here on the forum. Check out some of the set ups in the vid section at the top of the forum
Those vids are where you want to go with your audio and I guarantee not one of those vids are running a Rockford PBR300X4.

167 people took the time to look at my question and other than Matt and Gannicus no one responded.

Matt was nice enough to say he didn't have knowledge on the set up and Gannicus was nice enough to say, I f'd up and sell what I bought, it's beginner crap, and sell what I have. I find it funny that I was simply asking for help with what I have, and no one had any suggestions? I got my setup tuned in and for me, it is great. Sounds great, good tunes, and very happy.

I'm not saying there aren't better setups but it is what it is. I think I am like a lot of riders that aren't happy with the stock stuff and do a few changes. Not looking for the holy grail of sound.

I wonder if the main people on this audio forum actually ride their bikes. Seems the few are always quick to respond, let one know how their setup sounds, and move to the next thread.

Just so you know, I don't go to a parking lot on Fridays and Saturdays to show off my sound, I just want to hear my music while riding.

I'm thinking the other 165 folks were speechless man!!! It would be like showing up in a classic car forum asking for improvement ideas on a Ford Pinto.

Just sayin!!!!

As long as u like it, that's all that matters. No need to get all juiced up over 99% of the viewers not expressing interest in your set up man. It is what it is.

I guess I'm failing to see how the question wasn't answered. The question wasn't "what can I do with my current stuff to make it sound better" The OP asked for "some direction". Gann gave it. Sorry you didn't like the answer.

The people that answered first are the guys that the majority of us go to for our answers to questions. Your are probably lucky they replied first or the rest of us would have gave our opinions and probably gotten of topic. Then you would have had to weed through pages of filler to get your answer.

Don't take peoples replies as bashing or insulting. This audio stuff and this forum in particular are evolving rapidly and for the average guy (me) it is hard to keep up. In my opinion the average stuff guys are installing now was very high end stuff just a short time (months or even weeks) ago and it will keep rolling that way.

Stick with it and ask more questions the guys here will get you where you want to be.
And no you don't need the latest and greatest to have a great sounding system for cruising down the road.

Good luck
Brad
