Default New to Harley

I picked up a 2013 Ultra Classic last Tuesday and radio was working great. Went for a ride last night a radio was working fine. Came out this morning and now radio won't respond to anything. It is on but won't respond to any buttons, controls etc. no sound coming out either. I tried to run a diagnostic test but it won't respond to any buttons so won't do the disagnostic.

i have checked the fuses, pulled the main hoping it would reset it and still nothing. Disconnected the battery and same result.

Any help would appreciated.

Time to get the radio repaired or go aftermarket. I'm right here in Indianapolis if you need some help.

Be careful if you let Gannicus help you, you will end up with a 3 amp 8 speaker and tuned to perfection system by the time your done.

Joking aside, if your close enough to have gan help, I would suggest you do it. You won't find a better guy around.

I'd jump all over this offer JRL. There's nobody better to walk you through the process.

Thank Gannicus. I was debating whether to have the current one replaced or go with aftermarket. Surprised to see these units don't last that long.

What is normal cost to repair/replace the OEM system vs. going aftermarket? I would like to have Bluetooth so for me I have been leaning towards aftermarket but thought I would have a little more time to decide that than a week.

The 13 and down HD Harmon Kardon radio is totally unpredictable. Some last 5 or 6 years. Others start having problems around year 2. Strangest thing I've ever seen. What I do know is even after repairs they continue to have issues. Iron cross audio is the place to send your stock radio for repairs. Excellent company and quick turn around. They charge a $250 flat fee if the radio has no physical damage. Also they have a 1 year warranty. They do have a blue tooth mod available for an extra $140 bucks. If you're thinking I've sent a few radios to em. You would be right!! They do a good job!!

Now the other side of the story. At this point you would have close to $400 bucks in a subpar radio. At the end of the day it's still the same stock HK radio with limited features with the exception of Bluetooth.

IMO you would be money ahead going aftermarket! Better sound and many more features.
The kicker with the aftermarket Switch over is the install kit for your handle bar controls.
Biketronics - $220 bucks
Hawg Wired - $230
Metra 99-9600 $24. + Metra Axxess ASWC-1 - $50 bucks

As you can see the cheapest way to go is the Metra. Scosche also has a kit that a lot of guys like but I only use the three I listed.

Man, you guys are great with the info and thank you for making a newbie to the site feel welcome. So I went out to the garage today to do something else and radio is working like normal. I think I will be going aftermarket after doing some reasearch today but hopefully this radio hangs on so I can really lock-in what I want.

This at least gives me time to read all these threads now!!

Good deal! Just remember. Once they start acting up it's only gonna get worse. Would hate to hear the story about a guy half way to Sturgis and his radio goes out. That would suck. Lol!
