Default Can an amp just "die"?

First of all, thanks to T for his undying determination so far in attempting to trouble shoot over the phone with me. And second, thanks to all y'all on here for all the information you provide. I'm not very good at this stuff, so please bear with me.

Bike is a 2012 SG.
Speakers are DD AW6.5 w/AT28's in the grille (fairing system only).
I installed a new Aquatics HU and attempted to reinstall my amp (PA RZ4 2000D in bridged mode). When I reinstalled amp, it wouldn't work-no lights.
-Checked all fuses: good.
-Checked power and ground with DMM at battery and at amp end: 12.12 volts.
-Replaced AGU50A fuse at battery. Still no go.
-Hooked up amp directly to battery: protect light then nothing.
-Hooked up at front end again: nada.
  • Is my PA done?
  • Can the JL MX280/4 supply enough juice bridged to those speaks? (I have a brand new one sitting on the shelf)
  • Should I rewire all new from battery (power and ground)? If I do I will likely switch to a blade type fuse.
Bike has been down for almost a month, and I really want to get back on the road.

ThanksThanks in advance.

Cheese, if I were you I would throw the JL MX280 in there, at 140 watts rms bridged, that should be plenty of power (not optimal) to run the AW's...and of course if the JL works you know its not the wiring...something is wrong with the RZ!

Hey buddy. Wondering if you tried the JL to see how it sounds, or if it fixed it?

Hey Kris!
Torn down and starting to rewire. I hate the screw in terminal blocks like on the PA. I have had too much trouble with wires breaking or not making a solid connection. I'm not sure how most guys do it...maybe I should post a new thread.

I am also rewiring ground back to battery and new power with blade fuse instead of glass. Had it grounded up front because it was my first go.

I hope to be reassembling by this afternoon. If you have a suggestion on a better 4 ch amp (that I can get tomorrow/Thursday latest) I'd be open to it.

Mark I use preinsulated ferrules on all of my speaker wires that are connected to screw terminals. They hold up better than a naked or soldered wire.

I have never had an amp die, but I had a 4 channel PA cut in and out, it was annoying while trying to perform live.

I got mine from Amazon but they're available from other places. If you go that route make sure to get the specific gauge to match your speaker wire. I use a molex crimper to crimp the end to the wire but any crimper will do in a pinch.
