stereo crackling. Now no sound. Code U1016 pops up???
Last weekend I took a ride on my 09 flhx. The fm radio was cutting in and out and driving me nuts do I turned the stereo off. I noticed some crackling would still come out of the speakers (even with the stereo off) when I applied the front brake. Today I go out to wipe the bike down (forgetting about the steroid issue from last week). I have no sterio volume now whatsoever on any mode (cd,am,fm,aux). The sterio appears to be working on the dash, just no sound. The crackling sound is even gone now too.
The bike is throwing code u1016 loss if ECM serial data. Could these be related. What would cause the bike to throw this code?
The sterio in this bike is not my highest priority. However I have an 05 ultra that will be my wife and my 2up bike... it would be fun to get a head unit on that one where she can connect her phone via Bluetooth and play DJ from the back seat (we just got this bike as a gift it has 300 miles on it do the head unit is new... well stored in a garage and covered since 05 new). Could I pull the head unit from that bike, put it on my street glide and then get a head unit for the ultra?
Same tank emblems as the 05. So the 05 head unit will work in the 09 bike? The 09 is broken. Then I'll look for a nice head unit for the 05.
No need the jack around with it bro! Go aftermarket on both bikes. You're prolonging the inevitable. A good aftermarket HU can be had for less the $200 bucks.

So now I'm really in uncharted waters. What's good? My only preference would be to retain my stock hand controls as I'm used to then. I believe the 09 has an amp in the fairing. That sterio has not sounded good since I bought the bike. I just thought it was the way they sounded until I cranked it up on the ultra classic. Could the amp be the problem as everything on the head unit is still functioning, just no sound out the speakers.

Yes Sir! Anything is possible with audio. Crack the fairing open and see what you have. Then get back to us.
