Hey guys. Looking to upgrade my outdated oem speakers on my 03 Ultra. I guess while I'm in there, I might as well add an amp. I have done some research on here, but I am audio challenged.
There was a post by fblo1690 on a budget amp. The amp I think he ended up with was a Cerwin-Vega B52 Stealth Bomber Class D Amp (b52, 2 Channels, 1,000W).
I think I would like to add some Infinity Kappa speakers, fairing and tour pack.
What speakers and size would you all recommend?
What would i need for a complete install, wiring, fuses, adapters, etc?
I think I read not to use automatic volume control with an amp, can it be turned off at the oem head unit?
I would like to retain all handlebar functions.
I'm pretty confident I can wire this thing up with a little guidance from you guys.
Thanks for the input.
Sounds like you have done some homework. But the amp you mentioned is a 2 channel amp. You need the b54 4 channel amp. The kappas are 2 ohm speakers so that amp will run those just fine. You will need speaker adaptors for the front 5.25 to 6.5 but I'm not sure about fitting the rear pods. The AVC can be turned off too. If you keep the stock u, your thmb controls will still work. If you go aftermarket hu, then you will need a thumb control interface. 6.5 speakers all around. Others will probably be more help than me but that is what I know you will need.

You are correct travelingypsye, I've done some homework. The more I read, the more confused I get.
If I run a 4 speaker setup, I will need the B54. Can't decide if I should run a 2 or 4 speaker setup.
From what I've read, the most sound you here comes from the front speakers? Is this true for the passenger also?
I guess it would make more sense to put the second set of speakers in the lowers?
Any opinions?
I hear people talk about line levelers, will I need them?
Thanks.

You will not need the line levelers since they are used on the boom system 2014 and up. How many speakers do you have now? You are right that most hear better from the front but if you have a tourpack with speakers, those need to be changed to. I assumed you have a tour pack with speakers that is why I said 4 channel amp. We all know what the mother of assumption is.

I have the stock H/K head unit with stock fairing and tour pack speakers.
Would it be feasible to just do the fairing? open for suggestions.
You can but the difference in cost of the b-52 and b-54 is less than $50. The only extra expense is the rear speakers. Adding kappas to the rear and amping them will be both beneficial to you and any passenger. It will be well worth the extra investment to change the rears also. Just my opinion.
If I had it in my budget to do a 4 speaker setup, I'd add the lower speaker pods and do the fairing and lowers. The tourpack would be the last speaker I upgraded especially if you ride 2up more than solo.
I appreciate everyone's input. Speakers in the lowers also crossed my mind, if I can track down some pods.
Does everyone agree with amp and speaker choice?
Will I lose FM reception with this amp?
Please keep the info coming.
