Just trying to get my ducks in a row for my audio upgrade on a 10 ultra.
As suggested contacted BAB cuz their mount seemed to be the best option without cramming components and trimming gauges etc.
Problem is they dont presently have any and Im unsure when (I am on the list)
My question is, is there another mount available or that the gurus use that is comparable? There are others on eBay that seem generic, not quite wide enough and still seem to cram the amp (ss pn1000) in up against the gauges making the low level inputs next to impossible to access.
I would wait for BAB but want to get going soon and also already have bits waiting at the border for pick up.
Thanks and sorry for the run on sentence...
USAproud asked the 64 dollar question. If you are going to keep the stock head unit you will be trimming gauges. It is just a matter of that amp being HUGE compared to the space available in the pre-Rushmore fairings. The mount doesn't make much difference at that point you really just need something flat to sit it on. I removed the headlight from my fairing and felt around and with my gauge housings trimmed to where the amp is all the way back there is only about 1/4" space clearance between the amp and the outer fairing shell.
If you have an aftermarket head unit I have been told there are many more options available to you with that amp. I have seen some installs where the amp wasn't really sitting on a mount it was just tied down and allowed to hang down at an angle. I personally ain't crazy about that but to each his own.
That is GREAT amp for the money. But after all I have been through if I could have afforded it I would have gotten that new Focal amp that Tailwind is using on his bike. The forward facing controls would be really nice. That being said once I had everything adjusted and put back together it still cranks my Motos in the fairing and my four ADs on the rear channel with volume to spare (and the difference in price paid for all four ADs).
Sorry, no going to swap out for either a Sony or jvc
Groovy. you should have a lot more options from what I've been told. Some of the smart folks should be around soon to steer you in the right direction.
You are leaving alot on the table staying with a stock HK head unit.
Sorry Lou, my wording may not have been best.
I am going to update the head.
Wasnt sure when, so was looking for a mount that worked with both.
Have changed my mind since and going to go with either a Sony mex70 or jvc kdr97.
