Hey All,
I am an Audio Newbie.(I have installed a couple of handlebar units without an issue but thats it)
I am trying to install a 4 channel Shark Amp onto my Road King. Just to make sure I have everything working, I wired the Amp+ direct to the Battery. Amp- to ground, the power light on the Amp did not come on.
After doing some research, it seems as if I need to use the REM wire to power on the amp. SO, I touch/hold the REM wire to the battery+. The amp powers up and starts to play a song, then it stops. I take the REM wire off the battery and retouch and does the same thing.
Is something not working correctly? I thought once that was powered, it would stay on.
Would wiring the REM wire to the Accessory Plug under seat work? if so How do i wire the 2 wire out plug to the 1 wire Rem wire?
Sounds like you might have an amp problem. First are your positive wire and your rem wire fused? They should be. I would take a test light and do as you are doing but use the test light to monitor your power source and make sure your not losing 12v from your power source when your amp quits. If your not losing 12v your amp for some reason is shutting down. It could have an internal limit switch or an overheat cut out. The other thing to do is monitor your power source with a digital tester and see if your source is 12v.
It doesn't take much power to light that diode on the amp.
First of all the remote wire is to turn on the amp when the ignition or acc is on. You wired the amp directly to your battery. Without the remote the amp would stay on all the time. Find a viable low amp source of 12 volts that comes on with the ignition or acc switched on and it should work.

Yes, I know I wired it to be on all the time the way I did it. I just wanted to make sure that it worked.
So, can I just wire the REM wire to the +wire of the Accessory plug under the seat? (It's controlled by a switch on the nacelle). If so what do I do with the --wire? Cap it?

Yup. keep in mind that your system wont work until you tur on your switch. What are you using for your audio source? Most aftermarket have a 12v out for a power antenna. If that is what you have use that source.

It is a blue tooth amp and I can use my phone as a 3.5 mm jack. So there is not a traditional head unit.

I wired the Amp+ to the battery. The Amp- to ground. The REM wire to the Accessory plug under the seat. Works perfectly with the switch on the nacelle.
I really want to do speaker saddlebag lids but the cost of getting the lids painted the right color is outrageous. My only option here is if I get some of the China made Knockoff Speaker Lids and use a color matched shaker can.....I doubt I would get a good finish that way though.
