Hey Kris/blackpearl, Definitely take some pride in doing the little things to make it work. Makes you like it even more doing it yourself. They're growing on me as the days go by. Once i get them wrapped, waterproofed as best i can, and grills on, I think ill be happy. Then just some fine tuning and we'll be ready to rock.
It is a retired police bike. A 2008 outta denver I believe.

Good to hear they're working out for you guys. I was under the impression that they worked with the stock lower fairing, as in removing the glove box door assembly and screwing on the pods. But it seems I would have to purchase their after market faring that is made for their pods. Someone correct me if wrong but the pods do not connect to the stock lower fairings (on '07 ultra).
So I decided to put another pr of 6.5 Kappas down in the stock lowers. Already have a pair in the upper fairing. Hooked up to the B-54 with a Kenwood hu. I think it sounds great, BIG improvement over stock.
Sadly I can't say with 100% certainty if these work with the stock lowers or not. I believe they sell the pods separately if you go direct to the fairing factory site, but can't speak to it myself.
Happy with them so far. Just finished up wrapping the 6x9s in some waterproofed cloth and rigging up the grills over them. I did have to us a stack of washers to space out the grills from the pods. The square edges on the pioneer pro grills didnt seat into the pods exactly so had to work around it.
Just need to get my audio settings right and I'll be good to go.

By MnG they are referring to the group meet and greet in Black River Falls,wi in June. There is a post with details if your interested.
Thanks InTheWind. Wish I could make that one but unfortunately can't this year. Live in TX currently, but planning on riding up in September for the Tomahawk fall ride. Family does it every year. If your around that area in Sept let me know.

When it's closer we will start a thread on meeting up for the fall ride in tomahawk. I and several other go every year
Hi guys, I don't see there any one's replied to this in a month but figured I'd give my two cents. I took a swing and got the 6 by 9 lowers with the pods off eBay. I'm pretty much done with the install with the exception of some finish work.
I'm still not sure if I'm totally sold on them. I will say that install was kind of a pain in the *** because not everything lines up perfectly I've had to make a couple trips to Home Depot for some longer screws, and one of the support brackets broke at the weld during install. I ended up using some chunks of hot water heater tubing as spacers in the brackets since they don't tighten fully around the crash bar. I had a gap between the metal U bracket to my bar. But once shimming that in there it seem to be a lot more stable.
Since it'd likely cost me half the purchase price to ship them back I'm just going to roll with it and see how I like them. Maybe they'll grow on me. I did have to buy 1/2" spacers because the Pioneer 6900Pros that I installed the magnet was too big and they wouldn't seat fully in the pod.
I love being unique and having that extra size, but the one thing I didn't factor in was the clearance for the shift lever and the rear brake. It's still fully operational but I question if I had the downshift or stop quickly if my toe would catch the pod or not. I've only put on a few miles with them and still getting used to it, so could all be in my head. So we'll see long-term if I just get used to it.
Here are a couple pics. I don't have the grills on yet because I'm going to wrap the six by nines in waterproof cloth then install the grills, but they should give you an idea on looks and fit.
Any questions, ask away. Hopefully my trial and error can help some folks out, just like others have helped me.
Wondering how these are working out long term. I'm looking to pull the trigger on these and this is the only example of these installed I could find. I'd love to hear how they are working out. Especially if the clearance between the shifter and pod and brake and pod worked out. Thank you
So far so good for me. I did get used to the clearance with the clutch and brake pedals. Depending on your shoe size and pisture you might be a little duck-toed when pressing either, but its just becime muscle memory at this point.
After securing them down as deacribed in my original post I havent had any issues with them moving at all. Just be prepared that you might have to do some DIY shimming depending on the exact fit on your bike.
I still really like the sound. I'd post more pictures but the bike is tucked away at the storage unit for the winter currently.
If you have any other questions just let me know, happy to help however I can. I figured for $200, even if I hated them, that its probably one of the cheaper things a guy could buy when it comes to our baggers.
