Default Top Choices For HEad Units

like the title says, looking to find what the top choices are for head units.
Price is not some much the issue as sound quality, ease of operation, durability and functions(eq, co and such). Please post up about the units you like and why, thanks. the budget that i have to work with for the HU alone, minus controllers and such is 300-350.
thanks
marco

i did do a search on this, but it keeps coming up with only 2-3 units and they all are under 200.00 dollars. usually you get what you pay for, so i was hoping that maybe someone had tried something that cost a bit more to see if it was any better, anyone??
thanks

You have to try some out and see which ones provide the sound you are looking for, feel most comfortable tuning, perhaps has a specific option - for example I know a guy who said he didn't like a radio because the Bluetooth took too long to connect. It's those types of things that if a customer is going to spend 300 on a radio you might not get that kinda feedback here....it's a live and learn moment. Now I ask or let the customers know that up front when choosing a radio. If you want the best sounding radio those reviews are posted all over car forums and sites. Typically the top three are the Kenwood 998, Pioneer 80PRS, and Alpine 149BT. I've used all three on my personal and they are all VERY different from sound to screen size to tuning features and honestly each were awesome in their own way.

Thanks for the response Alex!!
This is for a customer's 2014 SG, he is a sound quality guy, so SQ would be first on the list, the rest can be worked around as he's used to the Boom 4.3. I'm just trying to decide on the Sony XAV-AX100, or a more conventional style unit with the faceplate. The Sony hasn't been out that long and there aren't a whole lot of SQ comparisons between it and the more conventional units. The bike is running a MMats amp and speakers if that helps. (horns too). all his tunes come off his I-Phone, no radio.

I've had an Alpine 9886 for 3 seasons, then went to a Kenwood 998, it sounded better, I was surprised that it sounded better! I just tried the Pioneer DEH 80 PRS, it sounds great, but the display sucks in the daylight with small numbers and letters, Plus the DSP section when running it in normal mode (front-rear-sub), was not as adjustable with the HP X-over jumping by 20 (80-100-120-) and limited slope adjustments of 6 & 12! The 998 Pro Section the X-over were adjustable by 10 (70-80-90-100) and slope adjustments of (6-12-18-24). The pioneer has a Tri-mode setup were you can control tweeter, mid's and sub's, which didn't work for me! All that being said I am going back to the Kenwood 998, I like the display better and the DSP section better and the sound between the 998 and the 80 PRS are both great, top notch! Like Haze said little things make a difference for guys that are serious about bike audio...hope this helps!

Marco,
nothing mentioned above besides the Sony you bring up are double din. Is your customer set on having a big screen? the New sony xav-ax5000 is around $430. No idea on how it performs though.

i talked to my distributor about the 5000 and it is cool, my customer's first concern is sound Q, if the SQ is equal or close, we'll most likely go with the Sony, but if one of the others is that much better(and less cash) we will go that way.
by the way the metra 95-9700 install kit fits both the ax100 and the ax5000, just for anyone that might want to know. the 5000 also is better set up for Sat and HD radio.
thanks for all the replies so far, please keep them coming!!!!
