So you said it was probably your bad, why do you say that? What JLs do you have in there now?

Educated guess it was me and not the speaks. Assume my bad because
1. my first time around tuning
2. Looks to me like the outcome of wrong amounts of juice being poured in (although I expected my first screw up to create smoke not melted goo)
3. it’s both speaks.
4. JLs have been fine now that I have a few rounds of how to tune under my belt.d

Edit: also thinking need to check for a ground issue since i just put the bare wire into the b52 terminal without putting any type of terminal ends on. Might be asking much of that screw or I could be overthinking it.

Odds on 2 bad speaks in the same box are a lot lower than the misuse of a tuning screwdriver to my newbie mind. And I also later figured out that the output from my iPhone I tuned from is significantly lesser than the Sirius from the hu that I regularly listen to.

Running the JL C2-690tx right now in the lids off the b52

I see, what's your take on the JLs so far? What lids do you have them in?

Harley lids with Vtwin audio 6x9 conversion kit.

I don’t know that i have enough perspective to give an opinion. I don’t know that i had the polks set right to compare and I have been playing with multiple other things too, HP vs flat / BT settings, general tune . When the replacements show I up i will be comparing on a level field. That being said I have no complaints with the JLs. Just don’t have enough exposure to good vs bad to have a valid opinion just yet. I’m still a rookie at this.

I will say the polks are slightly heavier and bigger than the JL but not terrible. Probably splitting hairs. JL protects the components better as compared to the Polks when sticking into heavily used bags like mine.

Your saying the Polks weigh more? Those are the lightest 6x9s I've ever had. Have you ever had any issues with speaker contacting the bags when opening and closing

JL are heavier. Sorry for not being clear. Polks are silly light. JL’s aren’t bad just heavier than the Polk.

No issues with the speakers hitting on the bags with either set that i have noticed.

I have to watch what I have in the bag in my case. My left bag is usually jacked pretty full so I have to pay attention to leave some gap. Same with the wife’s stuff when she fills the right bag

I really like the weight and size of the Polks. I've had better sounding speakers in the lids, but they were too big and heavy for my liking and don't last long. I'm trying to find a set of the Polk MM691s, but they are discontinued

Have you tried these alpines? I’ve never heard them but look similar in shape to the polks.

I like the size of them but don't think that the sensitivity or resistance is going to get the most out of my amp. I only have 2 channels for the 6x9s that I'm trying to squeeze every last watt of it. Thanks though! I'm always open to new options
