Default Trouble with Alpine 149BT

Hollow all new to the forum but been reading it for a while. Recently the voltage regulator went out on my 2012 street glide, after replacing it my stereo sounds awful. I did the reset on the head unit and reinstalled my eq settings. I am running a JL 208/4 amp bridged with hertz hcx 165 in the fairing. I tried changing out amp and speakers and still sounded horrible. Is it possible the bad voltage regulator damaged my head unit? Any advice would be appreciated.

If your voltage regulator was not allowing enough power to the amp, after replacing it, you just my be over powering the speakers now that you have proper voltage going to the setup. I would first try retuning the amp by backing the gains down, set the volume around 3/4, set the hu flat (treble/bass) and HAVE THE BIKE RUNNING while tuning the amp. If it still sounds bad I would try un bridging the amp and try running those hertz just off channel 1/2 and retune. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did rest my gains but no change. Even to it to a local shop here in Tampa were they set the gain with a scope and tried to dial in the eq on the head unit first using an RTA to get it flat then tuned by ear. It does sound better then it did but now sounds muddy. Still thinking the voltage regulator affected the head unit. Using any of the preset factor eq settings is completely irritating to the ears. I guess I going to pickup a new head unit and give it a try. Any suggestions on a different HU?

Get the Sony MEX-M70BT before they discontinue.

Gannicus, thanks for the recommendation. I had looked at this HU on other post in the past and after your response I decided to ordered it this morning. Great price from Crutchfield, now for a new amp and speakers $$. Thanks again
