While I know best is subjective. Any new cool HU's out there. Newer ones seem to be double DIN for newer bikes. My bike is a 2011 Limited. Good HU now looking for something different but not if it's a step down or side ways. Current HU is Kenwood KDC-x998, Speakers front and rear Kappa 6211i,,,,amp ,MA4-3000D. Thanks

Like you said, it's subjective. The 998 is as good as anything in it's price range for a bike application. Once you get into the upper end Sony's and Kenwood's you're really splitting hairs and most of it comes down to personal preference. If you're looking for a show bike only sure there are high end options, going down the road at 70 the 998 can do everything one can reasonably expect out of a bike. Not trying to be a smart azz, but your speakers and amp are far and away the limiting components in your setup. The 998 is overkill for those speakers.
Well I asked. Not going to get that $1500.00 is too rich. But nice to think about. As far as the speakers. They are bright. But loud. I have tried to shop speakers. Kinda have to go on what I read here. Some speakers are just expensive. Not necessarily good. Since I can't tell the difference. I have stayed with the Kappas. As far as the AMP. Power seems almost over kill. So at least until I change HU and speakers. Which I am willing to do. That amp has no draw backs as far as I can tell. I don't want to take up bag space for amps and speakers. Only because I do use my bike for touring and not just bar hopping and I use the space for luggage, rain gear and stuff like that. Thank you guys for all your help. If there are any suggestions on speakers or HU please post back. Have a great 4th of July!
Have this in my wish list. Looks nice. Need to see how readable display is in the sun. And if it's an upgrade from what I have or a side move. But it is slick. I can get one for a pretty decent price so I may just do cuz.Don't do FLAC files so that's not an issue. Thanks again.
Budda, My 998 recently quit after 3 years, when installing a new amp (4250). I tried the DEH-80 PRS, on a recommendation from Gannicus. It is a great sounding unit, but I could not see the display on a sunny day, the 998 is easier to read (but not great by any means). The Pioneer has a 16 band EQ the 998 13 band EQ. The DEH and 998 both have DSP's built in, the DEH has a Tri mode that I could not use the would control tweeters, mids, and woofers separately which seemed great if you could use it! I have 2 amps and 8 speakers so I used the Bi-mode DSP which was lacking compared to the 998. The DEH X-over points jumped by twenty (60Hz-80HZ-100HZ ect) and slope adjustment only had 2 settings 6 & 12 in Bi mode, while the 998 as you know has X-over points by 10 (60-70-80- ect) and slope has 4 adjustments at 6-12-18-24. So in conclusion I went back to the 998! I will also add that the 2nd 998 took a sh*t when I re- installed the 4250 after I got it back from BT, so I re-ordered the 998, and I am on my 3rd one! Kenwood has a marine HU KMR-D772bt that looks like a nice unit, but I don't think has as good a DSP as the 998, but looks like you can set X-over points on it! my $.02

I think I will stay with the 998. I looked up reviews and it seems ok and the info you gave does not really make me want to spend $250 on something that is a not really an upgrade. On the display thing. The 998 and the Kenwood have a display mode that uses just the back light and black lettering. Works great in any light. I use it on the 998. And on the utube video I saw for the Kenwood it showed a guy accessing the same menu. It basically takes out the black background and high lights the information works slick. Thanks again. I can't seem to leave well enough alone so I'll keep looking. Must be a disease! lol
