I have a 2016 SGS and would like to add lowers with speakers. Will the factory system run the additional speakers or will I need to add an amp?
Go aftermarket for the fairing and lowers and be done w it. If not u will be back here in a couple months tearing all that factory stuff kicking yourself for putting good cash into bad stuff.
You can have your bike flashed to turn on the rear outputs and run that to lowers.
You will definitely need and amp if you want to hear your music when riding.

Do some reading here and come up with a speaker/amp plan and everyone can help you make a choice.
I have a 2009 Street Glide, so it may be different, but had to have it flashed at the dealer to get the fader to be activated on the radio. Then I ran the rear outputs to an amp which runs the lower speakers that I added. I have the fairing speakers and tweeters running off the front.
