I'm sure this has been beat to death but i can't seem to find it.
I traded my 2016 road glide ultra for a 2019 street glide.
The first thing i noticed was the lack of musical volume, so i added a taller windshield and now i have more bugs to look at.
Million dollar question is:
Would i be better served with 6.5" speakers in lowers or get the 6x9 Rockford kit and cut them in my saddle bag lids?????????
( I have 6.5" Mille coaxials if they'll fit in the lowers)
Equipment I currently own:
Focal Sport 4 channel amp
Hertz 6.5" components (fronts)
Hertz Mille 6.5" coaxials (used to be rear tourpak pods)
I need to buy B.T. fairing speaker brackets & line levelers.
The Focal amp did come with an input resistor harness, would it work instead of the line levelers?
My thoughts are the lowers. In the past I’ve added lower speakers to my Ultra as I don’t seem to hear the rear at speed. The lower speakers with an amp made a big difference. I have no experience with the lids but I don’t t think it would be much different than tour pack pods.
Good Luck
I have the lids in my 2018 SG and although I like them, I have heard other bikes with lowers and if I had to do it all over again, I would put lowers on instead of the lids. Reason being, you will loose some of the sq and actual sound from the rears at speed. Just the nature of the beast. With lowers, all the sound is in front of you and the SQ from that set up is better. I would suggest a set of lowers with a pa style speaker in them like the prv's (will be a challenge to install them) or hertz svt's as you have all the highs you need from the fairing, the pa style will add that mid range from the lowers for a good balanced setup.
I got a set of advantblack lowers for sale already loaded with PRV speakers with cvo style grills for sale...will give you ALOT of extra volume up front
If the choice was just lid OR lowers, I would definitely say lowers. However I would say make sure they are on their own channel instead of in parallel with something. I have run them both ways and the lowers do need a little more power going to them than the speakers directly in front of your face. When I was able to fade between the fairing speakers and the lowers to blend them properly it was a lot of good sound.
Once you get that done then still consider adding lid speakers with their own amp. The more points of sound you have for your ears to pick up on the easier it will be to listen to your tunes. I was very pleased when I added lid speakers to my existing six (fairing, lowers, and rear pods).
