Default 6.5 Comparison

Which one of these speakers will have a warm clear sound? I know I won't get low end out of these, not what I am looking for. Just a clear punchy sound that is not bright at highway speeds with volume. Also, can these be mixed? Example, run two PRVs in the lowers and two DDs in the fairing? All four off a PN4.1000. Just trying to figure the best combo to run up front - fairing and lowers. I have a set of each of these already, which is why I am asking about these specifically.

DD VO6.5 OR PRV 6MB250

The rest of the system looks like this:
XAV-100
no DSP
DD BT30s in the fairing on their own amp
DD VO6x9 in the lids
PRV 8MB450 inside each bag

Thanks in advance.

I dialed everything with a dsp, obviously it lacks in the low end but otherwise sounds great. Snare drum hits pop real loud

I know MOTOMIKE runs the VO 6.5 in his lowers maybe he can chime in. I have not heard them. But, I have heard the smaller PRV and would not call that a warm speaker.

I can say you can mix brands and types well with that SS PN4.1000d. I have one running WDX6 Motos in the batwing and AD Designs CX62s in the lowers and they blend well. They are not the best sounding choices available but I got them for their water resistance. I can still hear the duet between Keith and Mick on Sympathy for the Devil on Get Yer Ya Ya's out just fine at 70 though if that tells you anything.

I do find that I have to lower the volume of the Motos in the fairing a bit so I can blend the ADs in the lowers properly. They are aiming at my head so that is understandable. You may want to establish a way to adjust the input signal to one of the channels so you can blend them. I just used a level control **** and stuck it under the switch housing so I could adjust the rear channel of the SS that the lowers are on. That SS amp is a beast for the price range, whatever speakers you choose I bet you will like the end result.

I'm running the VO6.5 in my lowers and I like them, never had a PRV on my bike so can't say I have had a side by side comparison. The VO plays lower and higher according to the specs, but specs lie! I have heard quite a few PRV's on other peoples bikes and I have always been impressed, loud, clear, and punchy. I would also say the PRV 6MR-500 NDY is a closer match to the DD VO 6.5 then the PRV 6MB-250! DD Audio calls their VO line voice optimized and you can hear the vocals on the road with all the factors working against them (wind, exhaust, ect) I have the DD AW 6.5's in my fairing, and actually purchased another set of VO's for my fairing, but the AW's (of which I was a little disappointed in when I first put them in) broke in and sound really good with the BT 4250 amp I am running on my front stage right now...still want to try the VO's in my fairing, but might be a winter project! But I really like the AW, VO combo on my front stage right now...hope this helps! Baby B has had both PRV's (MR & MB) on his bike maybe he can chime in, if he sees this!

I don't mean to hijack the OPs thread but you know what happens when we see s shiny object...

Mike the description you give of the PRVs has got me thinking. Now that I have eight speakers all around I don't have to depend on the tweeters in the ADs in the lowers as much as I used to. I wonder if a dedicated mid-range in the lowers would give me a little more mid bass up front? I am only running 140 watts on that channel right now though. That is fine for the ADs but I haven't tried anything else to know how it would turn out. When you described the PRVs as being "punchy" that's what got me curious.

I am a little reluctant to put a more powerful amp in the fairing though because the Motos in the batwing really don't need that much power. I already have to starve them with the fader to keep them from blowing my head off.

If you have the lowers on their own channel now, 140 watts to the PRV 6mr will be plenty. And yes you will know they're there.

agree 100%. if you can dump that many watts into a 6.5" PRV in your lowers your engine guard will thump
