Default Speaker upgrade.

Well blew my stock speakers leaving Daytona last week..... Needless to say it was a quiet 530 mile night ride home.
Looking for recommendations on a speaker upgrade and amp that won't break the bank.
The bike is a 2015 Road Glide Special with stock boom 6.5

What's your definition of "won't break the bank?"

Oh, that shouldn't be too hard to stay under. You wanting to go Pro Audio or Coax speaker like what you had? You planning on installing a line leveler as well to help offset the crap stock eq curve in the headunit?

Just something a little better than I had.
Possibly adding a tour pack with speaker pods in the near future.

From what I've read.... you either need to add some BT Line Levelers or a DSP unit if you're adding an aftermarket amp to a Harley head unit. The BT Line Levelers are the cheaper option of the 2 and should run less than $100 and are plug-n-play. If you're thinking off adding a Tour Pak with speaker pods later, I would suggest going ahead and getting an amp that will handle that to start. I am currently using a Soundstream PN4.1000D and it gives a lot of Bang for the Buck! Is it top quality, no..... but does it do a great job at a $150 price tag, YES! Speakers are kind all over the place.... if you want Pro Audio, the price and performance of PRV seem to be great.... but there are other brands out there as well. With only running a 'Fairing Only" kind of setup currently, maybe some of the guys like Haze, SBates, Tailwind, etc.... can chime in with the best option for what you're looking to get out of your sound system. It's definitely a rabbit hole kinda game, so be prepared to start chasing once you dive into aftermarket bike audio!!!

If budget is the main concern it's hard to beat the CV B54 and 6.5 Kappas. If you might add TP pods the B54 will run two sets of Kappas nicely.
The SS pn1000.4 would be nice also.

This is great info. As far as tackling this myself what would the difficulty be? I've never messed with audio, but I've internally wired 20 inch ape hangers and I'm not a complete fool.

Hi,

I've done both internal wiring on a set of apes for my Dyna and upgrading both speakers and adding a 2-channel amp to my Ultra. No doubt about it - the handlebars were much more difficult. More to keep track of, etc.

If you can do the bars and wiring you can definitely do this. Also there is tons of info here and on Youtube to use for reference.

Agree with input from Marshall and Paul, go for it!
(Just surprised you could listen to stock setup without amp at speed)
