2016 SG Audio Upgrades?

2016 SG Audio Upgrades?
Hi Folks,
New to Harley and this forum. Read a LOT here, but still think am best served by a response to my exact needs. I get that all Harley and JR Audio etc kits are as worthless as the stock set up. I want to upgrade, but let's be real and try to keep things inside $1000 with installation. I'd like to avoid a dealer flash, maybe be able to do the install myself(?) as the cold weather is kicking in, and don't mind a project. (or do I?).
I am assuming from all I've read that a speaker upgrade won't make it -- and that a quality amp is absolutely necessary too. I only want to run fairing speakers/2ch, that's how the bike came. If I can avoid modifications to the fairing as well, that's a major plus, unless someone can walk me through that too.
I've had lots of experience with home audio so know the value of amps vs speakers --
Really don't want to run down a rabbit hole of upgrade after upgrade....lets do it once and be done with it.
so, hit me -- you guys know everything apparently -- your best ideas for amp/speaker fairing only combos under a grand.
