Just brought a pair of Hertz HCX 165.3 speakers for my 2019 RGS and discovered they do not fit.
I guess I need to either cut the speakers enclosures (not an option as brand new bike), or buy some speakers adapters to raise the speakers to clear the magnet.
Does anybody know of one, I did see someone mention biketronics but searched their website and couldn't find any for my year.
I put same speakers in my ‘18 RG and had same issue. Got adapters from BikeTronics. Spendy, but they worked.
Also got metal grills from them to replace stock plastic ones, at their suggestion. Not really necessary, but no regrets as they look better. If you get those grills note that you need to use the clips and seal/gasket from stock grills as new ones didn’t come with them.
I am in the middle of the same thing, bought the Biketronics amp, hertz speakers...waiting on the adapter rings for the fairing as well as the speaker pods, flashed the radio last night (mine is a CVO), and plan to install the amp tonight and speakers Saturday as it looks like the will be delivered that day.
The HCX are good. Doubt you’d be better off replacing them, assuming you got them at a good price (within $180 shipped). Reportedly as good if not better than more costly MPX.
I did homework, or got as much info as was available, and still went HCX.
I have found some speaker adapters on eBay, gonna try them first...cheap cheap cheap
Its either use the spacers or return the speakers and buy something else....grr should have done more homework
Make sure the HCXs sit flat and flush on the spacer face. Depending on the inside diameter of the spacer you might have to chamfer the I.D. of the spacer around an 1/8. I had to do that to fit my HCXs in the Metra 1/2 spacers I bought at Best Buy. If the basket of the speaker interferes with the spacer and you tighten it down your taking a chance of distorting the speaker frame... just my two cents anyway
Also, remove rubber boot from speaker magnets. They will pull off, not glued on.
What amp are you using?
I am using a Diamond Audio 4v2 and planning to bridge it to boost power to get the best out of the speakers

I got them for $145, so a good price, I had Infinity Kappas with a CV B52 on my 2018 so hoping this system will be a little upgrade.

The bike is a 2019 RGS which I own outright, paid cash, so a bit reluctant to start cutting a bike Ive only had a few weeks.
As the RGS comes with Boom Stage one speakers I was hoping there might be a little more speaker clearance, guess I might be unlucky, find out real soon
I think the ebay adapters are ˝", is this too thick to still use stock grills, I didn't know how thick the BT ones was.
