I will just replace it with another because of the SQ. You will loose some functions with the sony over the boom but in my opinion it is worth it. On the sony, the left thumb control will operate volume, skip forward or back on a usb device and what source you want. (use, Bluetooth, am/fm, usb 1/2 ect.). The right thumb will also operate the volume and pause the currant usb song. You can custom set what each thumb control function can do. The only thing I miss with the boom is the files on a memory devise will show up on the screen and you can look up what you want to listen to. On the sony, the interface only recognizes 250 max in each file so if like me with over 1000 different songs, you have to put them in different root files and open that file of 250 songs or less. I simple put different songs in different files (country, pop, oldies, ballads ect). The big advantage the sony has over the boom is a clean signal that doesn't need a line leveler, flash of any kind and no need for a dsp unless you have more than 4/6 speakers that need separate tuning. Hope this helps.
Exactly what I was looking for. thanks!

If your looking for Sound Quality, the Sony is a good way to go. I have not tried a DSP with the stock HU, and don't know if that would give you an acceptable SQ or not. If your liking the stock HU features more than just sound, maybe you should try the DSP route, many here have and say it works better than line levelers. There is quite a bit of info using the Ax5000 on this forum, I have installed it also, and am not going back to stock even though I do miss some things about the stock unit. I tried the boom audio upgrades, and quickly ripped them out and resold them because of crappy Sound Quality.
It's looks to me like the Biketronics kit has a different case housing over the Sony maybe making it more water resistant. The stock Sony case has holes for sure, and is why most cover with contact paper to help waterproof. You can buy the Sony kit with hand controls plug and play for about $450 ready to install. You'll need an amp, and upgraded speakers, fuse wire kit. It will work with Apple Car Play and Android. It's not for everyone and does not solve all issues unless your goal is sound.
Its kind of funny for me, when I bought my 2015 SGS sound was the last thing I cared about. I loved that it had GPS! But after owning awhile, and that it had a sound system, cause none of my other bikes had sound, I started to enjoy it. Then I realized how crappy the sound was, and have been chasing the issue since, like most in the forum that wanted more from HU and were disappointed.
