Looking for some suggestions for fairing speakers and an amp for my 07 UC. I really just looking to make it louder and clearer while keeping the stock head unit. I've been searching around and the amount of info is mind boggling. I really just want to hear my music while doing 80. Is this doable with a $400 budget?
It could be if you don't mind putting up with losing a good bit of FM reception. Most of the affordable amps will generate RF interference that will degrade your FM reception. If you are OK with that then you could go with the SoundStream PN4.1000d amp you have seen mentioned in recent posts for less than $150 in most cases. I don't know what is involved with getting it to fit on top of the head unit in an 07. If it is the same as my 2010 you will need to trim some of the plastic off of the bottom of the tach and speedo to get it to fit.
That would leave you $250 for speakers and wires. Next decide if you want to keep marine rating for your speakers or not. Answer that in a follow up post and folks with more experience than me can give you make and models for speakers that you can put in the four holes. I have heard some folks have had good luck with the Polk MM652 speakers which I think are marine rated. I looked on Ebay and they seem to be going for about $120 a pair. You will need a set of 6.5" adapter rings for the front set but I think I have heard they will fit the rear pods OK if you wiggle them a bit. Worst case scenario you may need a set of 1/4" or 1/2" spacer rings for them.
Well right now I dont even have FM since I removed the tour pack and tucked the wires. I plan on getting one of the hidden antennas to put in the fairing. The rear pods also came off to so thats not really a concern as well. I would like it to sound clear though on the rare occasion that I will use it. I pretty much run bluetooth constantly from my phone. Not sure if keeping the marine rating on speakers is really necessary. I live in AZ so its pretty dry here (not sure of that makes a difference). Im open to all suggestions.
OK if you only have two speakers then you could get by with a smaller amp. I don't have the experience to make any recommendations there but I have seen some folks use the Cerwin Vega B52 amp in those situations. With most affordable class D amps though the hidden fairing antennas don't work too well since they are right there where the RF interference is being generated.
I have a 2012 Street Glide and for my fairing-only setup (for now) I installed a and replaced the stock speakers with a SoundStream PN4.100d amp and a pair of Hertz HCX 165 speakers (both found on Amazon for under $300 total) and I am extremely happy with the sound quality. Add in some some Metra Speaker Adapters ($12.23), RCA stereo interconnect cables and speaker wire and you are under your $400 budget. I'm also in AZ (N. Scottsdale) so if you want to meet up to check out my setup you are more than welcome! Like I said, I am very happy with my upgrades.

Good to know. Thanks!

For some reason the links you posted are sending me to Walmart instead of Amazon and nothing comes up for that series of amp. I've seen a few other guys talk about those speakers so I'm definitely leaning towards them. I'm in North Phoenix so not too far away so I'm definitely down to meet up sometime. Also looking for more people to ride with. I appreciate it.

Very strange. When you hover over the link it clearly shows it's an Amazon link but when you click the link it takes you to Walmart. They are great speakers and came highly-recommended by a few on here. My cross streets are Scottsdale Rd & Dynamite Blvd. and ride almost every weekend, weather permitting.

I rerouted the stock antenna to go under the fender and seat, still works reasonably well tho I rarely use radio.
I was looking for the same thing you are. Went with a set of Infinity Kappas and a Cerwin Vega B52. At 80 I can hear it no problem and the bars on the display are even with the “e” in volume, so I have more to spare. Not chest-thumping bass but that wasn’t what I was after. Sounds great to me and have had others comment on it too. As far as FM reception, I have the hidden antenna and I get the closest station and that’s it. Stream music or Pandora from my phone. Good luck!
