Default stereo cuting out

added a RF amp (PBR300) to my stock head unit ('14 SGS)....also added rear speakers. Everything worked fine but then after getting it "flashed" at the dealer the speakers will occasionally cut out for a few seconds at a time. I put flash in quotes as I am not exactly sure what they did. The tech seemed confused and the invoice simply said "turn on rear speakers". The fader is now up on the menu but I am not sure if anything else was done. They also did not charge me...I was getting something else done so figured it was just a courtesy, but perhaps a true flash wasn't done. At any rate is it possible something they did caused this? Any other thoughts? Again it worked fine initially, but now when riding it was doing that every few minutes. We have had snow lately so have not been able to ride for a few weeks but I have just turned the bike on to see if it still does it when not running and it does do it once about a minute after turning it on, but seemingly not after if I leave it on for a bit while working in the garage...

I had the same problem and it was the amp going into protection mode.

do you know if that has something to do with the factory amp still being on? in other words if the flash truly wasn't done would that cause this? for what its worth I did check and with the bike just on (not riding it) when it does this the amp is still on, meaning the power button stays lit. I was wondering if maybe it was losing power for some reason but it would appear to still be on when it does this.

I am not sure about your set up, but my amp would stay powered up but the protection light would come on a blink until it reset. I chased this for a while, like weeks. Mine would do it when I turned up the volume. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable than me will chime in

thanks for the reply...as far as I know mine does not have the protection light so perhaps its a simpler amp. I am actually going to ask about his with a RF specialist. their site has a chat line

Ok so let's narrow this down a bit more. Which PBR 300 and what speakers are you using? I'm going to also make a WAG that you're not using a Biketronics Line Leveler either.

PBR 300x4...none of the speakers are high end, front speakers are Kickers 300w 2way/4 ohm and rears I honestly am not sure...they are cheapos that came with some aftermarket lids I bought. do not have the line leveler as I was under the impression that if flashed (which may or may not have been done) the leveler was not necessary.

I admittedly am kind of lost on audio stuff so forgive me!

Ok first and foremost, the dealership cannot flash your bike to be able to run an amp without a Line Leveler or a DSP to help tame the HU. Secondly, you need to identify what the rear speakers are. If they're 2ohm you need to disconnect them from the amp. That amp is only 4ohm stable. Thirdly, you need a Line Leveler (BT355) from Biketronics. Your amp is going into protection mode to save itself.

And yes that amp does have a protection light. It's the same as the power light except it'll change colors in protection mode.

I looked up the speakers online and rears are listed as 4 ohm, 60-120 watt. I did speak to a RF agent....they blamed it on the flash. they did tell me about the power light changing colors if in protection...it does not. it stays on and is always blue...so seemingly NOT in protection mode, however either way it seems I need a leveler....could that be the issue? I am going to order one today.
