Low volume with phone
I just installed the Metra bluetooth kit into my 2010 UC and it works as advertised. There is an issue though with my Samsung phone though that I wanted to bounce off of y'all.
It seems that later model Samsung phones just have a lower volume output than other makes of phones. It doesn't matter if it is connected via the 3.5mm jack or through bluetooth the volume level is easily three clicks lower than any other source. I can connect an Apple device and the volume matches the other sources. On some of my older iPods the volume can actually exceed the other sources. To be sure I connected my iPad through bluetooth and the volume level matched the other sources.
I hate cranking one source a lot louder than the others for safety reasons. Also it just doesn't sound as clean as a result. I have heard that this is an issue related to Samsung phones but I wonder if anyone has tackled the problem successfully. I have tested this with a Galaxy S7 and S8 and they both have low volume output when the volume control is wide open.
I have adjusted the equalizer settings but if you make ANY adjustment at all it actually lowers the output volume. I think what it is doing is subtracting all the frequency sliders except the one you raised to achieve the EQ without raising the volume level.
Has anyone found a way to increase the volume of these phones?

I THINK I found out what was butchering the audio finally.
The sound equalizer setting are under the Settings, Sounds and Vibration, Sound Quality and Effects menu. It's sort of like a mini DSP in this menu. You can adjust the sound however you like. This is good for headphones but it definitely lowers the maximum volume when you enable any of the features. If you set the Equalizer setting to "Normal" the volume goes up a little bit but even wide open it is pretty low when I connect it to the head unit (either connection method).
I noticed underneath the menu heading of "Sound Quality and Effects" it said "SoundAlive". I did some Googling and found that this is a service that runs all the time. I found some posts with folks complaining of similar poor sound quality issues and someone suggested disabling the Soundalive service and the follow up posts from users said that this solved their problems. I disabled SoundAlive on my phone and it definitely improved the volume and clarity.
To turn it off I had to go to Settings, then Apps, and then tap on the three little dots to bring up the menu and tapped "Show system apps". I then selected SoundAlive and scrolled down to "Apps that can change system settings" and turned off the "Allow permission" option. After that the volume level increased and it didn't sound like mud any more. It doesn't sound quite as good as the CD player or iPod but at speed it is adequate now.
I figured I'd peck all this out so there will be a record of it in case I forget sometime in the future.
