Was wondering if anybody installed cooling fans on top or near there amps to help keep them cooler on long rides on a hot day. Going on a 7 hour ride soon and want to make sure my amps aren't over heating during trip. I have a 800.4 sd and 400.4 sd .
I have done it.
The amps usually have vents on the ends to let air in. I have only had to do it twice but both went well.
I picked up a small slow speed computer fan from Radio Shack. Cut a hole in the top cover of the amp that match the fan opening. Attached the fan over the hole and wired it up with remote so it only came on with the amp. I mounted it so that it drew air up and out rather than forcing it in. That way it pulled cool air in from the ends across the board and up out of the top. In both cases the amp would heat up and click off on a long trip. Following the fan install neither ever heated up again.
