Ok, I picked up another DSR-1 for my system. I have been doing alot of reading on this and I think I have it down. to re-cap my system is the only thing I change in the fairing was the 602's. I put in the Herz MPX 165's . I was going to try the install again this weekend, but the grand kids showed up ( just like a spoiled daughter that would do that) so I guess I have to plan it later in the week.
I have two question though, what is the best way to power the DSP? I don't have a distro block and I read somewhere at the battery, but the cable is not that long .My second question is ; i'm not running horns or tweeter or subs. just straight 6.5 and 6x9's. what configuration is best because I am running two amps. when I look at the choices, I see 1&2 for tweeter, 3&4 for front mid- range and 5&6 for front mid bass 7&8 for subs speakers. So what is best for my setup?
Thanks,
Not trying to talk you out of the PSM, but with my flash I don't have a huge difference in ON vs OFF anymore. I think the "big three" are all pretty good DSPs. Maybe the big four since I've seen more JL TWKs lately.
If you get a DSR1 make SURE it is up to date, as they can be a pain sometimes. You would be doing well to get one from a shop that will update it and set the basic tune for you, that way if you have a problem they can stand behind it and offer help to fix it.
Updating the DSR is not difficult. When I bought mine it tells you to hook it up to your PC and update. It first took 10 mins. And supplied me with information while it performed the update. I was overwhelmed the all the settings but the update process was very easy. People from the site helped me understand all the settings in advanced mode which I played with and now have dialed in. Hope whoever gets one has as good of a experience as I did. Ride safe.
8 speakers 2 amps. I can't say anything bad about the advise that I've used that Haze has put out on the forum. I know sometimes it's a little cryptic, but it's usually good advice. Now for the pill no one wants to swallow I do not know if my fade or bass and treble work, don't particularly care. I bought a DSP to do that stuff. I only mention it because a lot of people don't like that part.

So once I hook it all up, I come in from the Sony HU, then out to the amps? Do I control gains and pass through the DSR1? I assume it let's you program names for each output, so you know what you're tuning.

yes.. you are correct... control everything through the DSR1... leave the sony EQ alone.. it should be off or set flat. Once your outputs are named then you can use the EQ in the DSR1 to personalize your sound, etc...IMO, its always easier to have someone who has done DSR1 tuning 1st... then you can tweek it from there... trying to do it from scratch is mind boggling.. it can be done.. i just know it was tough for me..
So on the DSR1, how do I power it? Can I just use jumper wires to the harness? Everything I have now is low level outputs.
I taped into my AMP power line. It came from the battery so the hookup was clean. The DSR only uses.5 amps while running so the draw is very very low. IMO
I'm gonna throw a new question on this out there, that surely someone has tried. I have the Sony XAV5000, which came plug and play and has a control box to allow the handlebar functions to work. With Maeatro built in to the DSR1, can I lose the box and use the built in Maestro? Just trying to save a little room of possible.
