I have a 2002 Electra Glide with a Biketronics BT1005 controller and a BT Titan BT444/445 75 watt amp. Not the biggest I know but this has served me well for several years.
Yesterday out of the blue my Sony MEX M70BT head unit went south. Unit is on and plays my ipod through the USB which is what I do 99.9% of the time. However, the unit is frozen, can't turn it off, none of the controls work (on the unit or the handlebar controls). I have tried to reset it, unplugged from power, plugged back in, no go. So, I need a new head unit. I have looked through the threads and am confused. I have installed 3 different Sony units in my bike in the last 9 years. This is the only one that has gone south (replaced the other two due to one was a loaner and second was upgraded to the M70BT for phone capability as I was on call a lot at the time).
I have looked around and see that an adaptor is needed a lot now for hands free? Yet the blue port is there. Will the Biketronics BT1005 just plug into that port for control? I also had a harness from BT that is plug and play wiring from the head unit to controller for the Sony units. I would like to get away from the Sony as I find it is just confusing for a non audiophile to set the equalizer. I can wrench, install but I struggle with audio settings and that type of technology.
So, looking for some ideas on what to go with. I need the blue tooth so I can see a call is coming in and needs to accept my ipod 7. Not looking to break the bank, just need to get something in quickly as I have a Sturgis trip planned. Kenwood, JVC, Alpine, Sony??
Did you try to disconnect the battery on the bike? <over 5 minutes off> My same HU just locked up and that was my cure for some of the problem. I think the BT was causing the problem and that is how they say to reset.

Pulled the radio fuse and radio memory fuse. I can try the batter also but thought the fuses were the same?

Just disconnected the battery, waited 20-30 min and still locked up. Same great sound just can't control anything. I have gotten 4 years out of this one. Rain, heat, some major pot hole hits and has always worked. Just decided to quit yesterday. Friend of mine goes through one Sony a year on his. I have stayed with Sony out of wiring convienence but may look for something else this time. I just talked to my friend, he just got a MEX GS620BT which is very similar to what I have now. I do like the usb long cord from the back. I have it plumbed to my saddlebag to charge phones while playing ipod on the front usb. Little more than I wanted to spend on another throwaway but...
Thanks for the suggestion on the battery disconnect.
