Don't hear much about the Focal speakers on here anymore. Are these still a good speaker for a fairing location or are there better options out there? There's a set locally for sale for less than $300. Just wondering if I could get more for the same cost or less.
Just like anything else, No one knows as no one has tried them. For the $$ I think it is hard to beat the mmats pa601cx. New they are under $200 a set. Lord knows I have spent way to much $$ on speakers as I am running hetz ml1800.3 in my fairing right now. I have heard the Focal's ec165k coax and they didn't sound bad just couldn't take a lot of power. Run them off a RF tm400 amp at maybe 125 per channel and they got mushy at higher volumes. At the price they want for those, the Mmats are a lot better. Did just help install a set of the ICU165 on a buddy's bike and they blew within a week running them off a stinger.

I know the Focal stuff was popular a while ago. Wasn't sure if something better has come along.
The pa601.cx and WDX6MOTO-G2's were the two I was thinking about. At half price for the Focal's I thought I'd ask. Always looking for a good deal.

It would be pretty hard to justify the cost of Focals these days, and especially when the G2's and Mmats are so reasonably priced.
I just heard a buddy's bike with Focals the other day and they sounded pretty good for a 2 speaker system, but I wouldn't trade either my fairing G2's or my Mmats in the lowers for the Focals, and definitely don't see any benefit of paying the extra $$$ to buy Focals.
Totally agree that the lower to mid tier Focals are just not geared for the sled audio environment. Bad **** in a cage but just can't keep up in a non controlled environment under perpetual high demand.
G2s and Mmats CX are damn solid choices for sleds.
Thanks for all the feedback. I'm lean towards the 601.4cx in the fairing, 690.4cx in the lids and PRV 6mr500's in the lowers. The Stinger 700x4 for the fairing and lids and a SD 400.4 for the lowers. I might add 8's in the bags at a later date.
I did couple bikes with those Focals and also components ES165 K in 14+ bikes and sound quality was amazing. Nice "kick bass" and sound stage. Not "stupid loud" but really good for highway speed.
