Default YIKES - Flash Search

Let me clarify. I came to the audio section with questions about flashed software. I only Searched the word FLASH.
Things heated up quite quickly. A lot of thongs to thing 🎶
LOL
I just picked up a 2016 Road Glide. From what I heard I knew I would want to upgrade the stereo. I picked up a BT2180.14 with BT

Lots of settings available. Hi/Low line
355 and Infinity 62ix speakers from another member.
the Road Glide is pretty stock. The stereo was exceptionally weak and I noticed the previous owner had the bass turned all the way off. I turned it up and there was horrible Distortion. I thought it was a blown speaker. I slipped in some spare speakers and it sounded okay. I'm hoping it's not the HU
I have the bike torn apart waiting for the audio equip. to arrive. I notice an ARC Audio KS125.2 BX2 stuffed in there !!? Maybe that's the reason for the Bad Bass.
a little research shows that's a pretty decent unit !!
●But here's my question.○
Is there any way to tell if my stereo HAS been flashed? And if it has, OR hasn't, will it make a difference with the setup I just bought. BT2180 + Bt355 line levelers.
If it DOES make a difference, should I NOT install the line levelers now?
Or ultimately.... have it flashed or UN-flashed (?) to match the set up I just bought. Biketronics.

I don't plan to expand or fade or go more than two speakers in the fairing.
I've been reading and reading and I just get more and more confused.

but the level of advice here is amazing!

I think the best thing you can do is stop by a HD dealer and have them flash the HU to what called an Ultra Flash. The basic Ultras generally come stock with a 4 speaker 0 amp flash and this specific flash has proven itself to work very well with the BT355. Should u later decide to expand, the rear channels will already be active.

The main reason I suggest this is u really just do not know what flash is already in that HU. If u don't identify that base line then it really could be a deep rabbit hole for u to get the best audio possible. Lots and lots of hacks in the various shops and also the MOCO thus it's cheap aspirin to hang out with the HD tech and confirm it's done properly. In many cases this flash is free during any service that's being done or worst case about $40.
Lastly, I doubt the HU is inoperative as they really are pretty damn reliable. It's a possibility but not very likely.

well that is excellent measured advice. Thank you.
Believing in my Baseline will important going forward !
most of this stuff is pretty stout, but there's a certain leap of faith in the used equipment I'm getting.

Do you think it's okay to fire it all up until I get it flashed?
or is it possible to damage something?
Thanks again

I don't think ur gonna hurt anything if u fire it up. Just make sure the treb and bass is zeroed out and the volume is off when u flip the switch the first time. Then just keep a very cautious ear for distortion as u roll. One threat to address on these Boom HUs is the AVC. It's basically and auto volume controller that increases volts to the HU signal as ur speed increases and with aftermarket amps there have been several that have fried equipment as a result. So just turn that sucker off and control the volume with ur thumb. Also keep in mind that those HUs will start to throw a dirty or distorted signal out above 14 out of 17 on the volume so keep 14 as ur max volume.

Congrats on the new sled!! Ride safe!!

Well........ those are all the pieces I bought. Good-news-bad-news is the ARC Audio is already wired. I'll have to redo the speaker connections but power to the battery look professionally done.

The problem now is u.s. postal service has gone quiet about my package. Due by last night 8 p.m. Now I don't know where my stuff is. LOL.

I'm not a big fan of BT amps, but it is better than the arc for sure. I'd definitely ring those kappas out if they are used make sure they aren't about to die.

yeah. There's a lot of reasons people sell parts off their bike.

what do you mean by "ring them out"? Run them through their Paces Etc - crank 'em up?.
