Good morning all, I have a quick question. I have a 19 FLHX, and am possibly looking to add a CB antenna onto it for group rides. I plan on getting a simple handheld CB, looking at the Midland 75-822 model. I want to mount a permanent antenna in the rear though, behind the saddle bag. I will route the cable up and under the tank, and plug the unit in as required.
What I am having a difficult time doing though, is finding an antenna mount that would work. HD makes a relocation bracket, but the kit is $100, and isnt what I need, outside of the bracket itself. Has anyone else mounted an antenna permanently back there? I dont want to drill or anything like that. I am also trying to stay away from a magnetic mount, if possible.
Any solutions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I suggest finding a decent size truck stop. Most have an assortment of brackets that may help you. Some of the larger ones also have a CB shop nearby as well which might be able to help you out.
As IA recommended, look at truck stops for starters. You could also fab up an L shaped mount that would mount similarly to the relocation one sold by HD. They typically mount low between the rear fender and saddlebag.
Thinking back to my CB days, more centered and higher was a better performing location for the antennas though.

Yes, I will take both your advice.
As to the location of the antenna, for the range needed and wattage, I have had decent experience with the tunable ones, which is likely what I will be looking into (had a Firestick on my Jeep years ago). With a 2 foot tuneable, I should be fine for the application I want to use it for. Right now, just sorta planning it out though. I may just go the handheld route too, and use a lapel mic (I have dozens at work, I can skin one from here).
I may be missing something here but does the tour pak of the 19 models still have the CB antenna mount? If so you should be able to just put a Harley CB antenna on it and buy a cable to run to it. I did that with my FM antenna when the OEM cable crapped out.
