Last year was actually pretty perfect if you wanted the whole experience. All the big stuff that usually goes on during the rally and the riding was great. Never had an issue getting somewhere in the hills. Last year was probably the slowest year that I had seen. Of course needles was a bit of a cluster as usual but not too bad compared to other years. Talking to a guy that's been up there for the past 20 years he says the best years to go is always the year before the anniversary because a lot of people hold out for the "big" year.

Yep, last year wasn't bad. Sturgis was grid locked on a regular basis every day. The road into Deadwood was backed up a bit one day, but got lucky the rest of the week. Needles and Iron Mountain were a little bit busy but not bad the first time we rolled through. We hit it again with some new arrivals around 4:30 the second time and pretty much had the highway to ourselves except for the odd straggler.

Last time in Sturgis was in 2014. 12 of us went 10 days before the official start and left the day it kicked off. All the vendors were there and as the start day started getting closer the lines to get some grub or a beer kept getting longer and the prices inching up.

Not getting any younger so if it still is a go I plan on riding up there roughly 10 days before the kick off. Post up if a group is hooking up in Central Texas for a ride up.

Don't ya know it's more than a beer drinking T-shirt buying deal, there's racing all week long, Flattracker racing, short track, amateur, pro, and vintage, Moto cross, drag racing, amateur and pro fuel, hill climbs, the museum is there, concerts, bike shows, and a myriad of events. Jacobs gallery in Deadwood, David Uhl will be painting in one of the hotels there........it all happens during the rally, not the week before........stay home, order your shirt on amazon if you are afraid of crowds. Its a motorcycle rally, go the week of, its supposed to be crowded, thats part of it, people watch, get an Indian Taco take your time riding....I have been going since the 80's......you might meet some like minded people and just chill in the campground all day.......ya, anniversary Rallies are crowded, go be a part of it, relish it, be safe, ride hard right in the curves, its not a place to delight the masses with your riding skills. put a smile on your face and go. Take rain gear, it always rains...a little, sometimes it will come a turd floater and wash bikes down main in Deadwood......just GO......

Go. You won't regret it. I go almost every year from Louisiana. I just like the riding up there. Beautiful country and a lot of scenic riding.
Like I said GO

Yep, go every year, but I live close...only a 500 mile ride for us. It's fun, the riding out there is spectacular! We don't spend much time in town, usually about 1 day, to get T-shirts for the kids, etc.
Every year we say we're going to ride out to Yellowstone/Beartooth Pass from Sturgis, and we wimp out, but one of these years, we'll get 'er done.
